I'm currently setting up a 500gb USB hard drive that we picked up for about $55 on clearance at Target.
I know WD doesn't have the best track record, but I really really need some extra storage space for my iTunes collection... 85 out of 120 GB of my main drive is music. :O
Even if it unfortunately fails, I have most of what I own backed up on CD, so this is a great and long awaited solution for me.
If you act quickly, you might be able to cash in on this deal too- Go check your local Target to see if they have any in stock. Lots of other people are aware of this deal though. I found out about it on a tech deals website.. so don't be too disappointed if they are sold out.
Here are the details:
The Price:
Clearance price: 64.98
Down from: 129.99
Orig. price: may have been even more than that?
If you sign up for Target's credit card, you get an extra 10% off.
The Drive:
Western Digital Elements
external USB 2.0 500GB
model WD5000C035
8 or 16mb cache... not totally sure. Either is good enough for me.
Taking the enclosure apart revealed a PATA drive.
We got 4 of these for only $247.
Two of them are losing their enclosures and getting installed internally... the other two are getting sold.
Nothing good ever happens to me, so I am really really happy about this.
