I bought a replacement logic board for this machine, but I am still having problems. The machine chimes, but the screen only briefly turns on before going dark. An external monitor behaves the same way. Any ideas?
Well... I think this thing is toast. I tried powering it up again, and although I got a chime and briefly a flickering screen, I also saw smoke come out of the modem port... sigh.
I actually haven't checked this. I only have one power adapter, an M4896, and no other machines I can test it with. Is there a straightforward way I can verify that it's working properly?
I recently acquired a Pismo in excellent cosmetic condition, but it isn't working properly. When I first got it, it would chime, then the screen would briefly turn on, but then it would go out. Disconnecting the PRAM battery didn't change this, although I then discovered that if I removed the...
Yep, my SE's battery is soldered too. Still works, but probably not for long. It was, after all, "Made in West Germany", a place that ceased to exist before I was born :D
The peg that goes through the hole on the broken end is still mostly intact, so the SIMM seems to be secure in the socket. However, I'm not sure if the wires can easily be soldered to the pins on the underside of the SIMM while it is in the socket.
The SIMM is 1MB.
I have never soldered anything...
I spent about an hour today trying to find somebody who carries right-angle 30-pin SIMM sockets, and it seems that nobody at all sells them. It would therefore seem that I'm restricted to kludgy hacks. The SIMM is still held in place by the broken socket, so glue may not be necessary. Also, I...
It is a Total Systems 020/030 accelerator, with an SE PDS connector. It can also be attached to older Macs by using a killy clip (which I don't have). I forget the exact name of this accelerator, but it says PCB #80042 on it. I'll see if I can find the box and manual later (I know I have them...
I acquired a 68030 accelerator for a Macintosh SE years ago, and stupidly broke one of the 30-pin RAM sockets shortly after I got it. I do not have soldering skills, nor do I know anyone I would trust with something like this. Does anyone know how I might be able to get this fixed? I'm also...
I own a pre-FDHD SE as my only Mac, and I would like to upgrade its installation of System 7.0 to 7.1, which as I understand, was the last version released on 800k disks. If anybody has these 800k disks, could you please image them so I can install 7.1 on my SE? I have looked pretty hard on the...
This will tell you how to let your classic Mac access the Internet via a null modem cable. You need a Mac with Mac OS 9. I've read that Mac OS 8.5-8.6 should work too, but I have not tried it. It will also work using a PPC emulator, such as Sheepshaver. This guide assumes that the Internet is...
Nevermind. I bought some System 7.0 disks on eBay. Everything is fine now, and my null modem cable works for transferring files. I was also able to use the cable to get my SE online.
Please help me. I still do not have System 7. I am failing miserably with a null modem cable, due to lack of a decent terminal program for the Mac. Could someone please mail me System 7 along with a copy of ZTerm?
