I thought maybe it was the modem and printer ports on the iici being dead. But I verified that the printer port works with an image writer ii. The computer correctly connects to the printer, proving that that port works.

With the computer turned off I connected the 150 to the computers modem port. I turned the camera on. The lines went around in a square. Then I turned the computer on. Then I went to apple menu/control panels/QuickTake image access. Then I clicked connect to camera. Immediately got the error...
I followed the instructions but I got the same error as before. I followed the instructions and tried the 100 and the 150.
The computer gives the error in less than 1 second from the time I click the mouse button to 'connect to the camera'.
The computer never even thinks about connecting...
