Writing files to 400K floppies using System 7.5.5

Well the RaSCSI has arrived :), man those 74LS641s get warm! Anyway, with a fresh install of each of the version of MacOS trying to interact with a real 400K disk in the 1.4MB drive of my SE/30 I see... 6.0.8 - Renders the disk fine, including understanding the System Folder and works...

400K Drive Fails To Initialize 99% Of the Time! But IF successful, will boot from the disk.

My experience is that having lubricated my 400K OA-D34V-22 drive it absolutely would not work at all without the aluminium mounting bracket around it, and even then it was a bit finicky about where it was put relative to the analogue board. However, once I remounted everything in the chassis it...

Writing files to 400K floppies using System 7.5.5

Fiddling a bit more with a stock 400K MFS disk image of System 2.0 in Basilisk II using Disk Copy 6.3.3... 7.0.1 - Does not render the folder correctly, but files can be copied into the image. 7.1 - Disk Copy whinges when mounting the image (-43 error), but does copy files into the image...

Writing files to 400K floppies using System 7.5.5

A small update, although a vanilla install of System 7.0 does not understand MFS folders, it does seem to be able to write files to a 400K disk successfully.

Writing files to 400K floppies using System 7.5.5

Thanks for your responses Good to know, thanks. That would be great if you could. I might consider downgrading to System 7.1 if it fixes the problem, although I do like the quality of life improvements associated with 7.5.5. This is a great tip, thanks! I had noted the desktop rebuilds...

Writing files to 400K floppies using System 7.5.5

Hey all, I wonder if you can help me please? Could someone test whether it's possible to copy a single file to a formatted 400K floppy in a 1.4MB drive using a 68K Mac running System 7.5.5? I have an SE/30 with 16MB of RAM that runs System 7.5.5, and I'd like to use it to write 400K disks for...

Using an M0131 external drive with a 128K Mac

My 128K Mac with 64K -A ROMs came with an 800K M0131 external drive containing a Sony MP-F51W-23 mechanism. The internet suggests this can't or shouldn't be used with the 128K, but not really why this is so. This intrigued me, so I've done a bit of digging... Like others, I have found that the...

    128K with -A ROMs and OA-D34V-22 floppy

The prevailing wisdom seems to be that the Mac 128K with 64K -A ROMs (342-0220-A and 342-0221-A) cannot be used with the 400K OA-D34V-22 floppy drive. For example: https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/400k-drive-repair-guide-a-call-to-arms.25721/post-386201...

    128K image centering

Hi, I have 128K Mac that I've been restoring. Following a "new" analog board and some RAM fixes, I've more or less gotten it operational. The new analog board required some image tweaks, I've worked out how to change the size, however, the screen image is not centered horizontally: I...
