One thing to note if you go with an ethernet card is that a lot of them won't work with newer routers. The workaround is to put a 10baseT switch or hub in between your SE/30 and your modern router. I don't know if Bolle's card has this issue or not (as I think he's posted before that his has a...
While we were all home during Covid, I picked up an 8600/300 from a gal via Facebook Marketplace for $50(!). I messed with it a bit, and I moved onto a different computer to tinker with (in this case a TRS-80 model 100 laptop). A few months ago I saw someone selling 32 Meg sticks of RAM for the...
Plans? No plans; I’ve had the accelerator for about 20 years now, and that card that Bolle made looked like a neat use of it. I probably use that computer for playing card games more than anything else. I don’t see that changing.
It's doubtful I'll ever use it; I like having a networking card in there too much to try to speed it up. I bought it over a decade ago and really didn't think I'd use it when I did. I did buy one of those Appletalk to ethernet bridges to try to free up the PDS slot, but never went further than...
A month or so ago I bought one of those cards from Bolle to put my Daystar 040 card into my SE/30. I finally got around to installing it yesterday, and went in pretty straight forward. Once I found the driver for my accelerator, I was able to test the ethernet portion of the card be sending it...
I had never heard of that one. I've got one for the SE that was new in the box when I bought it. Now it is new in an open box, as the only Daystar card I have is a 68040, and the manual makes no mention of that working with the adapter.
My understanding (which does not make it fact) is that to use the Daystar accelerators in an SE/30, you can't use a modified ROM. I am hoping someone out there made one of the new ROMs that can be flashed to duplicate a IIsi or IIfx ROM.

So I am getting ready to install a Daystar Accelerator in my SE/30, and am wanting to install a 32 bit clean ROM while I am in there. Are any of the new ROMs able to be flashed to mock a IIsi or IIfx ROM so the accelerator will work with it?
Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

I have a G3 desktop with a burst pram battery that I am parting out. It has a Zip drive in it, and I think the bezel is intact. If you are still hunting for one, let me know. Do you want the drive as well? I don't know of the top of my head if it's IDE or SCSI (though I think its IDE)

Well, I soldered a few pieces of paper clip to my leads on my meter. I get 4.6x volts on the outer pins. But then something odd happened. I must have shorted something out on the pins because the keycaps app went from the small keyboard to the keyboard with numberpad on the screen.
Anyhow, The...
I was thinking of checking the jack with an ohmmeter, but my meter isn't really meant for checking such small items (I'm an industrial/power distribution electrician) and the probes I have barely fit in 110v outlets. I am planning on looking for a phone headset cable and cutting an end off and...
I finally got around to repairing my Mac Plus (had to retouch solder joints on analog board to CRT connector). I bought this machine last summer mostly for the SCSI external hard drive case it came with, but also so I could test a few keyboards that are collecting dust in my basement. The Plus...
Thank you both for responding, especially about those hooks that hold the daughtercard in place. I'd have made a mess with my cabling for sure. I did not notice the extra drive bays above the power supply. Next time I open it, I will take a gander and hopefully install a hard drive up there.
I...
If you could fit a System with the Zip driver on a floppy, I would boot from the floppy and do exactly like you say. Just drag the everything over to the Zip drive. Using another System ensures that nothing would be running (such as system extensions) that may have some copy protection on them...
So last night I was moving a bunch of programs from my G4 to my new to me 8600 which was tying up the 8600. Since I am using an ADB switch to share the keyboard and mouse with that and my SE/30, it put my SE/30 out of commission as well. Well kinda. I hooked an extra mouse to the SE/30 and fired...
I had actually considered the power supply being weak as an option. I dismissed it (perhaps wrongly) because it sounds like troubles I would have at work (as an industrial electrician), not at home. I believe I have another adapter; I shall give that a try next time I am down there.
Thanks,

I found a PowerMac 8600 on Facebook Marketplace and picked it up yesterday. When I got it home I opened it up did a brief dusting (more to make sure none of it was sticking to capacitor goo), made sure the battery wasn't exploded, reseated the RAM, etc.
When I plugged it in and pressed the...
My cell phone is still an iPhone 6, and with only 16g of memory. The storage is the biggest problem I have with it. If I don't upgrade it soon, I am going to have to replace the battery again before too much longer.
I reassembled my Powerbook 165 after getting its screen recapped (Thanks again JRL!). I had to swap out the keyboard from another powerbook (160) and went ahead and put the larger 10M RAM card from that machine in there as well. Everything is great; it is booting to 7.5.x off the internal 240...
