Hey guys,
I managed to obtain a Sonnet Encore ST Duet G4 1.8 GHz which I want to use in my G4 cube. The Cube until now was equipped with a (non Duet) Sonnet Encore ST G4 1.8 GHz, an Artmix VRM etc. and ran fine with this. The Duet however doesn't want to boot. Of course, I have installed the...
Hey guys,
I am sure I am not the first to do this, so I am sure you can help: Is there a replacement optical drive and 3D printable bracket for the G4 cube?
This rather old site suggests a Panasonic UJ-845-C:

The drive seemingly was obtainable as new back when...
I didn't dare plugging it in yet since I don't want to destroy my Cube. But still, being able to use a PCIe GPU in a Cube would be cool, wouldn't it? I know that the speed increase wouldn't be huge. So why? Because we can (maybe)!
Hi all,
I know the title sounds nuts, but that's what I am thinking of:
The slot on the logic board that the Cube's AGP/Power daughter board plugs into looks exactly like a PCI slot. But is it a PCI slot? The
If it were a PCI slot, would it be possible to use one of those infamous PCI ->...
My Artmix VRM still works in my G4 Cube with 1.8 GHz Sonnet Encore. I replaced the stock fan with one I bought since the stock fan only made strange clicking noises but didn't really spin up. The new fan does briefly spin up when the cube is turned on but then stops again. It only starts very...
It‘s back alive for unknown reasons. I disassembled and reassembled it which, to my surprise, did the trick. At least for today, we‘ll see what the Cube is up to tomorrow….
Hi all,
okay all you G4 cube experts out there: I need your help yet AGAIN!
I have a weird problem with my 2nd cube. Whenever I connect power, it immediately turns on (without touching the power button). After a few seconds, the power button with flash very rapidly for about a second, the...
Hi all,
just put my spare Sonnet Encore G4 1.2 GHz in my spare G4 cube and it won't boot. After some fiddling around I realized that I have never installed the Sonnet firmware patch. Is there any way to install the patch with the G4 card already installed or do I REALLY have to disassemble the...
YES!!! It works now! It WAS the darn graphics card. The pin seals had moved slightly, enough for the computer to not boot anymore.
Now, after recovering the pins again, it booted even with the 1.8 GHz card.
What I have done:
- upgraded the firmware to the latest version from Sonnet (just to...
I gave the Sonnet Encore ST G4 1.8 GHz another try. But without luck. I installed the latest Sonnet firmware patch in advance (just to make sure) and the installed the card.
The computer turns on, after a few seconds (with me doing or touching nothing) the Power LED flashes quickly and then...
Well, it‘s back to work. The Cube had problems with BOTH its graphics card AND the CPU card (greetings from Murphy!). I was able to fix the graphics card with a friends help and had to revert to the 1.2 GHz Sonnet but at least it‘s now working again.
Thanks for your hints. The Artmix does have several LEDs, the first one telling me that it gets the required 28V, lights up. Nothing else happens though. I will check everything you mention but that will take me some time. I'll come back once I am done.
Guys, I need your help. My G4 Cube has ceased to work from one day to another. It doesn't turn on at all. It has been working quite well with Sorbet Leopard. It's a G4 Cube with 1.5 GB RAM and a Sonnet 1.2 GHz G4 card.
What I have done so far, trying to solve the problem:
- Disassembled...
Hi all,
I am trying (but failing) to use a Magic Mouse with my G4 cube. I have attached a LogiLink BT-015 Bluetooth USB dongle which is readily recognized by Sorbet Leopard as Bluetooth device. The Magic Mouse is explicitly supported by Sorbet Leopard. The Magic Mouse needs BT 2.0 which the...
The „Scotch tape fix“ fixed the problem reliably for me. Have used the computer for several days now, it has never again powered itself on or off since the fix. Knock on wood!
Can‘t get any SSD to work, though. Tried several IDE->SATA adapters without success. I am now using another IDE hard...
Okay, this is getting kind of frightening now. The Cube turns itself on and off erradically. 😱
What could be the reason for that? Defective sensor switch? Almost dead PVR board? Or almost dead PSU?
Got it going! The Cube happily boots Sorbet Leopard from an IDE hard drive. So it definitely is the SATA->IDE adapter that causing the trouble. Will stick with the HDD for now.
The hacked Geforce 6200 „Wang“ also works perfectly well!
Since I am new to the Cube: It doesn‘t have Bluetooth...
