I'm not really sure why, like I'd imagine it would be stored on the actual OS and in a file somewhere. The iBook keeps time OK after I set it.
I also honestly don't know what exactly is in the "hump" maybe there's a battery in there that keeps that alignment data and it's dead?
Hey all,
I've recently got back into collecting some Macs after a hiatus and was doing my usual eBay trawling and saw one labeled 'Apple iBook G4" in newly listed, usually wouldn't be something I'd look at too deep but clicked it and noticed it had a weird "Troll Touch Touchstar" on the back...
Sorry for the ignorance but I don't think I've ever used one.. we do have Cherry keyboards at work that may be model M but I'm not too sure and never really thought to look. I just know they are stiff as it gets.. my fingers cry after typing anything.
But then again I grew up in the mushy...
Just like Steve Jobs did with his display back in 1984  (at least according to LEM)
Yeah it personally doesn't bother me that much. RAM really doesn't define any computer, but it's just a bit odd considering the model is referred to usually as the Macintosh 128k. Maybe someday in the...
I have seen that auction site before... it does seem pretty unfair. If they are getting them as donations from the local area then consumers in that area should benefit. There are like little pledges on the windows that say something like employees can't hold, buy, and I may be remembering...
Wow, that would haunt my for a while. What year was that if you remember at all? It's hard to believe that one day a computer as collectable and valuable as Lisa was sort landfill fodder but there is always that period for almost every computer before being collectable.
Ah! I thought that red light was weird, never saw it on my SE.
I'm pretty certain that it has the 400k drive, as it won't read any of my 800k disks.
I'll hold off on opening it for a while and just live with the RAM... though it is nice to see it's something reversible.
I bet the guy I bought...
Ok so the seller also gave me a Microsoft multiplan disk and oddly it almost seemed to come with a new version of the finder (4.1?) when I put it in.. there I was able to confirm that it was upgraded to 512k of ram. :-/
I'm sort of disappointed but at the same time I don't really view it any...
That's what I've read too, interestingly I saw a for parts beige Power Mac G3 there the other day too... so maybe they put the Apples out as exceptions knowing there is a market for them. Though if that were the case I'd think we'd see a hell of a lot more of the really common models like iMac...
Yeah it completely shocked me when I read the description and saw original packaging. I was just excited to be able to grab one locally and not have to compete on eBay + Pay shipping. When I asked for a couple of pics and he even had some of the other accessories (I assumed just the original...
Thanks, I paid $100 for it.
- the accessory box, mouse, and keyboard box. Never knew they went down to detail like that on the insides too. The manuals are amazingly detailed. It's just incredible to read and think about all the things they had to explain that are completely second nature for...
Usually my Craigslist is sort of misses, just newer stuff and Power Mac G4s. The other day I saw a listing for an original Macintosh and jumped on it. Even more shocking is when I read the description and it said it had all the original packaging, manuals, and system disks! Needless to say I...
You know I was messing with my G4 the other day, for some reason I had the screen pointed up with the base pretty close to the edge of the desk. The position it was it would make it a perfect multitouch desktop. There would be like no fatigue there.
Do you know if there are national or regional regulations on things like this?
It seems so counter the idea of Goodwill to throw something away they can make pretty good money on. I mean especially iconic designs like the compact Mac series, even non Mac fans can appreciate them if nothing as a...
