Hello there,
I have a feeling this is a relatively simple setup issue, but not having a lot of luck figuring out what I'm doing wrong.
I am attempting to boot a Mac Plus using an external SCSI2SD. Specifically, going from the 25-pin connector on the mac plus to a 50-pin centronics, SCSI2SD is in...
Hi,
It's been a while since I've been on the forum, and it's nice to be back.
I recently got a Mac Classic that was being given away. It appears to be in good shape, case-wise. However, there are some issues booting up.
The logic board seems to be ok, as it makes a startup chime and comes up...
Thanks..
The CC is now outfitted with Fetch, WhatRoute, and MacWeb for (very basic) web browsing. And I can pull software from my modern Mac with FTP. Joyous day.
Thanks very much for the help.
Thanks for the info,
In the end I opted for the total destruction option, and just reformatted and installed System 7.1. There were no real incidents of note during this process, other than the fact that after 7.1 had fully installed and rebooted, that when booting from the HD, the same dialog...
Thanks very much for the tips,
I'm happy to report success!
While the color classic would not boot with no PRAM battery at all, when I swapped in a good battery that I had in the aforementioned LC 475, it worked!
I'm glad this turned out to be a simple fix.
This Mac looks like it was in an...
Hi,
It's been a while since I visited here, but it's good to be back. A recent rescue:
I just saved a Color Classic from someone who was about to bring it to the recyclers, and would like to nurse it back from its current non-functional state.
I do have another CC which is working, so I could...
I had a very similar symptom in a Mac Plus. Distorted bong, video strangeness, sad mac with strange pixels. It turned out that it was bad RAM - two of the SIMMs in that Mac turned out to be bad. Replaced them and it worked fine. Might not be the same problem with yours, but it's easy to test at...
Did that a couple of times, but the simasimac kept happening, so decided to go through with the recapping. Got rid of the substance on the board though, which I'm sure was a good thing.
I also have an SE/30 with no sound. It also had the beginnings of simasimac - when started after being off for a while, it would come up with horizontal stripes and no bong. But after trying a couple of times it would start properly - but still no sound.
In my case I recapped everything and...
Hi All,
I recently got a Performa 6200CD that someone was giving away on freecycle.
Other than needing a new hard drive (former owner removed theirs), it seems to work fine.
Is there any important maintenance that would need to be done on this computer? Batteries, capacitors, etc?
Seems to...
Thanks H3NRY, I will check the voltages and make sure everything seems normal. I'm feeling a dark cloud approaching for this particular widget drive though.. Seems like there aren't many working ones out there.
I'm interested in the IDEfile project which emulates a profile drive and uses IDE...
Also wanted to mention that when the HD is doing it's speed up/slow down thing, it will eventually spin down completely, after which there is a faint high pitched whine that is audible for a short time, then fades away. Just another piece of information..
Hi..
Got a Mac XL a few weeks ago that I'm in the process of reverting to a Lisa 2/10.
Mostly the system is working fine, except for the Widget hard drive.
Currently it has Macworks XL on it.
Maybe 65% of the time, it boots up without any problem and goes into Macworks.
But on occasion, it...
Sounds like a good idea to use the 512k's floppy drive to get the 128 fully working. If it's just transferring a drive over, there wouldn't be any irreversible changes. If you changed your mind at some point, you could always put the drive back..
Hi all,
Just came across this thread -
I've been interested in using my Extended Keyboard II with my modern Mac for a while, and recently built an ADB to PS2 converter using an Atmel Microcontroller.
You need a PS2 to USB adapter to use it with a modern computer, but I've been using it for a...
Just checked again, and it looks like the bad ROMs are 342-0220-A and 342-0221-A. The working ROMs are 342-0220-B and 342-0220-B.
H3NRY, thanks for the information about the 27C256's. Jumpering pin 1 to 28 seems like it wouldn't be too difficult.
With two different sets of ROMs, I guess I...
