Thanks, I was able to get these images working.
The copy of Out of this World is, in fact, a specific OEM version! It's marked as version "1.0mv" (presumably mv for Media Vision). Whether that means anything for this project remains to be seen. I messed with it a bit and the sound seems...
Hey folks, bumping this cause I've been poking at it again and would like to share my findings.
I started looking at this from a different perspective, namely, disassembling the PAS16 extension. I know basically no ASM so kind of stumbling through it while reading up on it, but I figured I...
7.6.1 here, though iirc I used it on 8.1 a few years ago. The software is definitely quite buggy, when first installed I see it having the sampling rate set to nothing at all (blank menu selection) but then once selected it shows the correct values. I've also had times when the system alerts...
Definitely worried about the endianness... but first gotta get the card to respond to anything at all :) Then I can see what sort of bits I get back and that should answer the question.
Good news though, the PC's SDK is available...
OPL3 pins 4 and 5 go to pin 125 and 126 on the MVD101-D "Spectrum" IC respectively. The chip is definitely hooked up and running, it's connected to 5V from the slot, and the data lines are connected to the MVD101-D as well.
The MVD101-D is the exact same chip used on the PC PAS16. In fact...
Thanks indeed! Good to have it. It looks like the core extension is still 1.0.4, but has a slightly newer Mixer panel at the very least.
Anyway, I'm not sure I can get further with my brute force attempts. I've attached my program if anyone wants to play with it or make improvements. I'm...
I'm definitely in 32-bit mode, I run 7.6.1. Regardless, I still find that $E0000000 isn't readable. If I do it in a C program, I actually get dumped into MacsBug with a Bus Error. Weird. I am also 100% confident that the card works, it is detected in TattleTech and the drivers work. I can...
Hey, this thread is alive again! Nice!
So I actually went off into a corner for a while and started really getting used to working with the OPL in its native environment (DOS), so I have some fairly functional C code now for detecting, testing, and playing back commands on the chip. Seeing...
So this has been bothering me for a few years... I have the Pro Audio Spectrum 16 NuBus card and there is a Yamaha YMF262 (OPL3) FM synth chip on the board staring back at me. It's mentioned in the manual's spec sheet, pretty sure it's on some of the marketing materials too, but there doesn't...
That's me, I replied already but to put it in writing here too, no problem with anyone doing what they want with the ROMs - as I see it they're not mine, I just happened to dump them off the chip. The more copies out there the less likely we'll lose them in the future.
After more extensive testing at 45mhz today, I found that it is not quite stable. Most stuff works fine, but I did find after more extensive playing around with MIDI over serial, that OMS would report serial overruns on more complex files. Since I do use MIDI a lot on that machine, it's kind of...
Well guys, I have my results, and I'm going to confuse everyone possibly. My Quadra 800 has... the XC88916DW55. And yet, not only has it run happily at 44mhz... jessenator encouraged me to try some of the undocumented DIP switch settings on the MacClip and now the machine is running at 45mhz...
I have wondered where these "limits" came from as well, because my Quadra 800 has been running happily at 44mhz for 7 years now. This is being done with a MacClip Jr variable speed oscillator. I am using the 33mhz 68040 that was in the system when I got it (assuming it's the one from the...
Bad news. I think it's dead now. Whatever was done with the "hot glue fix" shouldn't have been messed with. While clearing the regulator contacts to re-solder, a glob of the glue took one of the contacts and an SMD cap at position C36 with it. I attempted to solder them back on, but I don't...
Well, I just found out what the hot glue was for! The regulator was not even connected to the rest of the board-- it was GLUED in place to make contact! I'm assuming it was some kind of repair job, but really poorly done. I have no idea how this thing was working. I'll have to take some...
Yeah, I don't have that adapter, but it'd be cool if I got a 7100/8100. But check out the picture you posted... notice anything? The VRM/heatsink is at a 90 degree angle to mine, and the heatsink fins have been bent out of the way. Interesting! I suppose that is a potential solution...
A while back I salvaged a Crescendo G3 Nubus 215-225/512k from a dead, rusted out Power Mac 8100. This one of the earlier versions of the card so it is laid out a bit different than the later purple heatsink versions at higher speeds. I was going to add it to my 6100/60av but it seems that the...
