IDE to SD adapter in a Pismo?

I investigated a lot of possible solutions and tried a few. By far, IMO, I think the mSATA with IDE adapter is the superior solution. I'm also partial to the adapters with the Marvell chipset. These days you can get a 120 GB mSATA drive and IDE adapter for something like US$60, give or take.

    PowerMac 9600 startup problem

Yep. The first thing I would do is start with the RAM, other tests aside, finding two sticks to put in the same interleaved bank that don't cause this (if that can be done). If so, there's probably bad RAM (or RAM sockets) and at that point it can be trial and error trying to locate the bad...

Yet another free PPC for me.

Nice. I've been killing myself trying to get a Sonnet G4 upgrade of 700 MHz or better for my 7600 for less than what feels like half a million dollars, and one just falls into your lap? I'm insanely jealous.

    ATA PCI Card

I haven't used an IDE optical drive, no.  I'm pretty sure it will work but whether it's bootable, I have no clue.

    ATA PCI Card

Well, "reasonable price" is subjective.  Some people think more than $20 is not reasonable; others more motivated may say $50 is reasonable.  That said, in theory if the PCI bus works properly (and the card does) an IDE drive can be seen as a SCSI drive by these older PCI Power Macs.  And they...

    USB 1.1 and PowerMac 9600

I'm using an Adaptec DuoConnect AUA-3020 in a 7600, with three USB ports (the card is 2.0 but limited to 1.1 in OS 8/9) and two FW400 ports.  With the right extensions it works great in 8.6 and above, and in 8.1 mice and keyboards work but USB storage devices do not.  In these old PCI Power...

    Lombard/Pismo Batteries

I have two Pismo batteries (well, two that work at all, I have three dead ones) -- one is an aftermarket 6600 mAh battery I've had for a couple years.  In Tiger, CoconutBattery still reports the full 6600 mAh charge when fully charged.   Another is an actual Apple battery with about 360 recharge...

    Use PowerPC for a week?

Hard to be doable for a week? Maybe if you can't live without video. Otherwise, it's easy. I recently did it without really even trying to take a "challenge". I did it on a 1 GHz TiBook running (mostly) Tiger but sometimes 9.2.2 and occasionally (when necessary) Leopard. I also sometimes...

    Lombard/Pismo Batteries

As an aside, yeah, I've thought about buying a couple more Newertech batteries for my 15" 1GHz TiBook while they are still available. That was another cheap buy a couple months ago and it came with a *real* Apple battery with 61 cycles reported AND more than 100% of the stated 4200 mAh life...

    Lombard/Pismo Batteries

I think I may have been very lucky. I bought an aftermarket battery for my Pismo on eBay (which is sort of Russian Roulette) probably 7-8 months ago for $15. Until the video got sick a couple months ago, I used it a lot and Coconut Battery reported 6600 mAh of charge, and it could go for close...
