Nice find! I have to agree withe everyone else as well, the plastic on the earlier tray loaders seem to hold up better than the slot loading models. The only problem I've had with the tray loading model is that it seems to make a buzzing noise when the machine is turned off (which is more than...
I don't know about any other Macs that open up like that but I always liked the G3 AIO's back when I was in school. Always reminded me of a big tooth! 8-)
The only thing I would really worry about on the iMac G4 is the neck getting loose and the display starts to sag. I've never had this problem, but I've heard it's hard to fix once they start having that issue. The only other thing is if they are not stored/ shipped properly, the display can also...
I will have to try that! I'm sure it's tricky but it can't be too much harder than replacing a hard drive in an iBook... (which I've done too many times to count). What I am thinking is when I had the keyboard in storage for the past few days (had to change up my setup a little), I think I...
I pulled my white Apple Pro keyboard out of storage (the later square one, not the early white one) today. Everything was working fine until I was talking to someone online and all of a sudden the space bar stopped working. Does anyone know anything about troubleshooting these keyboards? I...
GREAT NEWS!
I got a replacement CD-ROM drive from another G3 iMac on ebay, installed it and it works like a charm! Got it to play a Beatles CD first and now I am booting OS 9 from a disk. I'll be glad to have Panther off of it and OS 9 on it instead.
As far as the monitor connection, yes, it...
Ah ok. So is it anything I should worry about or should it be ok for a while? I don't plan on using it daily but I don't want it to short out or burn up, if you know what I mean. xx(
Does anyone know any more information on the "whining" noise I'm talking about? It concerns me because if that is a signal that the machine is going to fail soon, i don't really want to put anything of value into it. Like I said, it only occurs when the machine is either off (or in sleep mode)...
I tried cleaning the lens with a dry q-tip and it appears that didn't do anything. If you want, I can post a photo of the drive while it's open. It also appears the lens is all the way at the far end of it's mount. I don't know a TON about CD drive's but I know that it should start reading...
(sorry for double post)
I put back in the known working HDD with Panther, and it boots again. What it looks like is that either the CD drive isn't spinning or else the lens is not working. I inserted the OS 9 CD and nothing happened. I ejected the drive and you can tell it's moved from it's...
Hi everyone,
As I've posted in the conquest thread... you guys know I had an Indigo iMac G3 which suffered from case problems. Well I pulled some strings and ended up with an original 233MHz iMac today! Just need some help getting it up and running (I also posted this on Macrumors seeking help...
Awesome, and nice deal!
I actually wasn't looking for an iMac G4 when I ended up with mine, but I'm glad it turned out that way. I get a lot of comments on it. :)
I just saw this today, figured I would share it with everyone.
Apple has disabled software update for all Macs running OS 10.3 and earlier, and also Mac OS 9 (as we've already discovered in previous posts).
Here is the page on their site:

Indigo? Indi-no :(
Went to upgrade the hard drive today and boy was I in for a surprise. From the moment I started to pop off the bottom case, all I heard was popping and creaking from the case. I decided while it was open that I would go ahead and try to glue the bezel back together.
What...
Yeah, thankfully the hard drive does look very simple to replace.
I kinda figured the side panel was broken too, but I've never disassembled a iMac G3 before, so I didn't know for sure. It's almost a shame, because the machine seems pretty good outside of the case fractures. Do you really need...
