    Apple II+ Question

That is a stainless steel chip puller made in Taiwan, which I bought about 30 years ago I remember not where. You can find similar gadgets on ebay by searching for chip puller or chip extractor. There are also tools for inserting chips in sockets, some of these come with moulded ribs on the...

    Apple II Software Question

??? So that was you was it ??? Another copy protection scheme I can think of, not sure if anyone used it, was to take a paper punch and make neat holes in the diskette platter, in free disk space.

    Apple II Software Question

I think a card called Wildcard could take snapshots of RAM to capture (onto diskette) a live specimen of an executing copy protected programme. Wildcard had a lead running to a push button that hung out the back of the computer. Something like a cable shutter release on a camera. However...

Beige Macintosh Plus Screen/Flyback Transformer Issue

Kindly let us know where you get the new C1 (C15 ?). I suggest you replace Q3 before you go live with kilovolts through the new flyback transformer, otherwise you could be up for a second new flyback transformer. You might also look for black marks or stains or charring on the PCB side of the...

    Kendall's Collection and Finds!

At the BASIC prompt (which from memory looked like either ] or >) type PR#6 Enter to boot from 5.25" internal drive, or PR#5 to boot from external 3.5" Unidisk (if it has the updated MON ROM, the original ROM in earlier //c shipped did not have the intelligence to recognise and use 3.5"...

    Kendall's Collection and Finds!

Correct. Also, in the old manual I was reading last night, it warned not to format / initialise High Density 1440KB diskettes to anything other than 1440KB. It is possible, but unwise, to initialise a 1440KB diskette as either a 400KB or an 800KB diskette when using a 400KB or an 800KB drive...

    Kendall's Collection and Finds!

I read last night that to format a 3.5" double density diskette to 400K single sided in an 800K double sided drive or to format a 3.5" double density disketter to 400K in a 1440K double sided drive, hold down the <Option> key (while inserting a blank, unformatted / uninitialised diskette...

    128k Mac Won't "Shut Down"

It is a Macintosh, it cannot and will not "self-terminate". What you could try, use ResEdit, search for the string "Shut Down", and change it to "I'll be back", then save it. Very appropriate in my opinion. Sorry I cannot be of more help here.

    Kendall's Collection and Finds!

It should work on a Mac Plus with an old enough configuration of the disk operating system, but at some point with later models or upgraded operating systems the support for 400KB single sided diskettes was ended. If you take a blank new 800K diskette to begin with, and initialise that as a...

    Kendall's Collection and Finds!

It might be a good idea to try to make extra copies of the Mac diskettes in a later model of working twin floppy (or internal + external combination) Mac with two good diskette drives, before you do anything else with those diskettes. Also, you might try using something like a pencil in the...
