I feel like an idiot for not noticing the absence of the other components. The soldering pads are gone and now I have to think how to solder these through holes.
Comparing my mobo to pictures posted on here, it seems that mine is missing a diode??? In the picture it is labeled as D1 (immediately below the battery), and it has 2 color bands. Does anyone have any idea if this is really a diode or perhaps something else?
Hi guys! I need help with a Macintosh LC 475 that I've been trying to revive for quite some time. It had a badly corroded battery which I removed and cleaned up the rust - no traces or anything else on the motherboard has been damaged except for two capacitors which have since been replaced...
I would rather attribute it to the adhesive's aging. I thought about leaching, humidity and what not, but these can't explain most of my observations. In theory, it should have been the humidity, since the polarizers are usually made of polyvinyl alcohol, which is known to absorb water (because...
I hope you succeed - let us know how it went! ... take pictures on each step and post them here, so that those of us who are more adventurous can follow in your footsteps.
I found the listing! You are absolutely correct - it seems that it suffered from the exact same type of screen polarizer damage as both of mine. Here is the picture that I downloaded from eBay. I am done collecting laptops.
My belief is that Apple must have used the cheapest LCD screens they can put their hands on. Nothing else can explain why all my PC laptops are OK - I have about 15 of them, a few Toshibas, Gateway 2000, IBM Thinkpads and NEC. My oldest is the NEC Ultralight, which is a 286 machine from about...
I have a few more which screens are still OK, but I am worried that these too will fail. I wonder if I should stop collecting powerbooks and collect only desktops from now on.
Yes, you can see it on the Duo 230 - it looks as a slightly discolored area, but if I have not turned it on I may have not noticed it. On the PB G3 no way to tell - it is only visible when it is on.
Hi guys, I am sorry it took me so long to take the pictures I promised, but here they are. My collection of powerbooks was kept in two different rooms with our dehumidifier running all the time, because of a health condition. Since I am a chemist, it never even crossed my mind to clean...
I feel for you! Had the same experience a few days ago. Happened to my PB 2300c, 520c, 230 duo and surprise, surprise my PB G3 Lombard. Will try to attach pictures later this week. They were all stored at a normal room temperature with the dehumidifier constantly running. Interestingly, I also...
