My dad noticed this in an attic he was cleaning out at his old workplace. He called me and asked if it was worth anything to me, of course I said yes so he grabbed it and I just got it tonight. It had been sitting there for maybe 6 years. It would have been tossed out with the rest of the...
So I've been looking for a copy of the old shareware program for System 6, Mac Talker, by James Joaquin. This page is the only one I can find that's supposed to have it, but the link is dead:
http://www.jagshouse.com/system_6.html
ftp://ftp.jagshouse.com/pub/mactalker.sit.hqx (dead)
Anyone...
Thanks a ton for the info! Not sure how I missed the site in Google, oh well.
I'd love to see the thing in action, I assume they're rather uncommon so I suppose getting my hands on one is likely out of the question. Still, great to have a resource like the site there, thanks again.
I just saw an old ad for this thing, the Mac Charlie by Dayna, from 1984/85. Whatever happened to this thing? It was expected to be released in '85 for ~$1,200 but I can't find out if it ever saw the light of day.
Was supposed to give Macs IBM compatibility, and IBM PCs the Mac GUI and mouse...
Precisely the reason I want to try it. Admittedly I have an odd fetish for bad/failed/Satanic software and hardware.
I don't know which poor machine I want to inflict that kind of pain onto though...
Yeah, that's what I had gathered from Lowendmac and such. I suppose I'll be on the lookout for one then - I've been wanting a desktop Power Mac besides the fact.
Had an amazing haul at Goodwill yesterday, best in ages!
- 12 PC and Macintosh games, 5 of them boxed (some good SSI stuff) and Microsoft Bob!
Caesar, Robosport, Rainbox Six for Mac
- ADB Trackball Pro boxed
- Radius Mac 512/SE Accelerator card boxed
- DOS on Power Mac 8100's card by...
Haven't checked the printers yet, but I found plenty of Tandy software and some peripherals so it's certainly possible.
And I got around to checking all the disks last night, and turns out only about 5 of them had any read errors! That's extremely impressive, considering how dirty many of them...
Ah, that may be what I've not heard of them, I'm pretty cheap haha. There was one server and a couple of workstations and business networking/workstation documentation strewn about, so it'll be interesting to see what else there is.
And I'm wondering about the Tandy stuff myself. I know there's...
First a bit of back story - Skip ahead if you want to get to the goods :D
I did some work for a local church years back involving restoring a few older computers (Pentium IIs and such) for use in a tutoring program they were doing for children. Mainly to teach typing and such. They...
Lovely machine, especially when you add a full '040, 1MB video and lots of RAM. Plays DOOM-era games and of course great performance with apps. Speakers are going iffy on mine though, meh
I used the instructions here more or less. DiskCopy 4.2 did the trick for me, though with DD disks. Sounds like you may be able to format HD as DD if they have not formatted at all yet.
Well, I am not exactly sure what I just did but, I got it work. Downloaded another image file (which was in .dsk format) and then converted it over to DiskCopy 4.2 .img format, then wrote it, it booted up perfectly. How very odd. Now if I can duplicate this with other programs, I'll be set.
