Agree completely about the Quicksilvers’ aesthetics.
You might test again with that StarTech adapter’s jumper set as “Cable”?
I lean towards Master / Slave jumper settings with Quicksilvers.
However the recent 933 here… seems to prefer Cable Select.
This 933 now has a “B” mobo with 150 MHz bus...
Battery voltage check OK?
Mouse functions fine otherwise w/ other machines?
OS X based primary machine - or dual boot scenario with OS 9 too?
Testing with PATA drive and SATA adapter - both on same IDE cable?
Or solely, or only with the adapter?
Zap the PRAM after hardware changes?
(And in some...
Big Congrats on your success (and that FREE G4 Dual 500)!
A friend of mine does clean mobos submerged in a bathtub and then allows them to dry for days. I’ve a personal aversion to that approach but I have used many cans of this stuff (which once only cost $5.00). It can now still be found for...
No. No clock crystal was removed. Just that simple little jumper and the addition of that resistor. It’s been running fine for 2 years with mixed 133 RAM on an “A” board. Haven’t tried it with a DP yet but may do so eventually. [Pretty happy with my “stock” 1 GHz DP QS for now.] And now this...
A wire jumper and a resistor…
First mentioned by Jonathan Renaud (2007 / link now dead).
Tested on a Quicksilver “A” mobo in 2021 with great results.
No way to gauge or confirm the speed increase at that time.
NOW thanks to evanboonie on MacRumors mentioning…

Congrats on your success. When I swap mobos and SSDs here I’ll run QB 2.0 and 4.0 on an OS 9 partition and provide those results - if you’re interested. In the meantime, enjoy that Quicksilver.
*I use similar bogus info with the Registration Nanny (when I don’t opt out completely) and I use...
Q: Where does one find Drive Setup 2.0.7?
Drive Setup 2.1 is available from https://www.macintoshrepository.org/689-drive-setup-2-1-2002-
And I believe that it was the last version made available with OS 9.2. (?)
This is my go-to OS 9 installer...
Thanks @bigmessowires. I’ve a couple of larger Crucial MX300 (or 500?) series SSDs here but won't test them in this Quicksilver until I swap out the A mobo with the B. And I do have an Adaptec SCSI card in one QS here (for an internal JAZ drive) but now I won’t rush to test any SCSI HDs.
Yes @bigmessowires’ 750GB Crucial SSD sorta smokes my 128 GB Inland SSD + "Bribge" adapter in a similar Quicksilver running Mac OS 9.2.2 with QuickBench 2.0. (QB 2.0 and 4.0 do differ a little in reporting and then there’s also the difference between testing OS 9 and OS X.)
Too bad QuickBench...
But definitely, if your PCI SATA card is Quicksilver compatible…
Here are some QB 4.0 results from a SiL3112 card with the EEPROM replaced & flashed, and with the voltage regulator changed - all in order to work in a Quicksilver. [Specs: 1.5 GB RAM, SiL3112, Netac 256 GB SSD and a 1GHz Sonnet...
