    Damage inside Macintosh Plus

The goop at the bottom of the caps is just glue. The back of the case looks like maybe the battery has been eating it. It looks like it has gone all the way down to the logic board, so you should to inspect/clean that area by the round I/O connectors to make sure it hasn't been corroding the...

Mac plus goes haywire at startup.

I didn't think about the deflection coils being faulty, no spares or donor machines unfortunately. How can I test these coils? By the way, when I said I resoldered the yoke connector I didn't mean the actual yoke of the tube, I meant all the plug in connectors on the analogue board and logic...

    Mac Plus RAM upgrade

All four sets I have are 9 chip. Does seem odd that only one set works but once it is going it seems to work perfectly. Maybe just had bad contacts or a faulty simm with the other sets. I'll try this again if/when I'm satisfied everything else is in order.

Mac plus goes haywire at startup.

Hello, I have this macplus which seems to be working perfectly except when I first start it up. I believe something in the horizontal scan circuit is going wrong in a quite alarming way. :O Here's a quick clip showing what I mean - On the video it is quiet but in person the sound is quite...

    Mac Plus RAM upgrade

Thanks for all the advice, seems like this is nothing to worry about. I'm having another go at this mac at the moment and will open a new thread about that startup problem.

Mac Plus turns off after short time

I'll just stick in my 2c here. I have a 240V mac plus that behaved exactly this way when I first got it. It would boot up and after a short time would trip the residual current device at the fuse box. A quick peek inside revealed the likely culprit, X and Y rated caps in the mains filter were...

    Mac Plus RAM upgrade

Thanks, that's what I was hoping. How about the voltage. At one point I had checkerboard with the RAM which then worked after an adjustment. Is this normal or may indicate a PSU problem?

    My first Mac

Thanks for the information. So what became of the old boards when someone upgraded, recycled for warranty repairs or . . .? I guess the original owner decided an HD was needed and upgraded at the same time to get SCSI. Either that or upgrade instead of repairing. I've been reading that these...

    Mac Plus RAM upgrade

Yep I did the resistor thing. I have also replaced all the electrolytics so it isn't old caps. There is a lingering problem on the analogue board at startup so I have put it back to 1Mb for now. I just wondered if this was normal. If it isn't clear, it doesn't take ages, just a chunk longer than...

    My first Mac

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - http://classic-computers.org.nz/blog/2013-01-15-retr0bright-only-temporary.htm The best success I had was with an Amiga 600. It lives in a dark place and never gets sunlight. It has started to revert to yellow :( Interesting that the euro ones were made...

    Mac Plus RAM upgrade

Hello, new Mac tinkerer here. I have a Mac plus which is nearly fully operational. I have put the machine back to 1mb for now while I try to sort some other problems, but I have a few questions about upgrading the RAM. Is it normal for a Mac plus with 4Mb to take a long time to start up? After...

    My first Mac

Yeah, it is more even and not as nasty as the yellowing you get on Amigas. Overall build quality and materials seem better than wedge Amigas but I guess it had to be because of the CRT, not to mention the price tag. This one was quite dirty though, particularly the keyboard and mouse, all...

    My first Mac

Thanks, serial number is F5213CVM0001WP if that tells you something. It is an international/240V version.

    My first Mac

Greetings Mac liberators. I though for moment you weren't gonna let me join your club because I prefer my 68k computers with a Commodore badge on them so thanks to the mod for activating my account. I liberated my first ever Mac a while back for the kingly ransom of £6 from an auction house. It...
