I assume you mean the pds slot? It was a bit of a nightmare to get off to be honest. It took a lot of heat and the desoldering station to get most pins released but several just would not let go. I had no choice in the end but to pull of the connector leaving a few pins on the board then...

Well I got it sorted. Reflowed all SMD work and refinished the pins on all PLCC chips, chimed and booted straight away :) Or well more or less, I managed to damage a ram simm in the process but thats glued now and the boards working fine. Just in case anyone is interested -

The board has been sent to me faulty for repair, I didn't assemble it. There is nothing from the speaker baring the usual pop when the system is first turned on.

OK we are back to a black screen and chime, found a bad solder joint on the MDU, the rom select pin. Going to reflow the rest of that chip on the off chance.

One thing I should add is that the 2 diodes just above the battery area were heavily damaged. I've replaced these with through hole parts mounted surface while waiting for new parts to arrive. In fact the board also has suffered severe leakage from capacitors which has all been cleaned up...

Yes the battery holder is out and the 2 traces directly under it and 1 close to it have been repaired. To give you some idea of the level of damage these traces were simply gone.
