ATI Rom Extender 1.2.5 - Buggy?

I found this extension on a package called Old-Radeon-Software.sit but it seems to have issues with switching resolutions. Switching from 1280x1024 to 640x480 or vice-versa makes everything on the screen go away except for the gray background and the mouse arrow. Even on reboot it persists, forcing me to boot without extensions, disable it and reboot again. Is it a buggy extension or is anything else that needs to be updated as well? I already have the latest ATI update installed. Mac OS version is 9.2.2. Last stable version of that library for me is 1.2.

Have you looked at the ATI software and notes at
https://gona.mactar.hu/ATI_Mac/ ?

How is the ATI Rom Extender 1.2.5 related to the software in that list?

Each ndrv (PowerPC Mac driver) is a PEF with a date. How do the dates in the PEFs of the ATI Rom Extender 1.2.5 compare?
The ATI ROM Extender 1.2.5 is dated from 2005, while 1.2 dates from 2004. The jan. 2005 package, which is the latest for Mac OS 9, doesn't include any of them. ATI ROM Extender 1.2 is installed from the Radeon 9200 ROM Hotfix OS9 (v124) package. However, I can't seem to find any other reference for version 1.2.5 or where it came from originally.
