What are the common failure points on the AV14?

A few years ago I recapped a AV14 monitor and it was working flawlessly. I put it on a shelf for a while. I decided to break it out again today and use it and it no longer seems to work.

When I first turned it on I got a loud, normal degauss. When the Mac booted I heard high voltage start but nothing appeared on the CRT.

Now I can't seem to get much of anything from it.

Does anyone know what I should check next? FWIW the 14AV is exceptionally similar to the TV/LC520/550/575 Macs. The CRT and many components are identical and the main board looks like a smaller version of an LC5xx analog board.

Hi,

Are you referring to the Apple AudioVision 14 display? Check for dry solder joints first around the flyback and condition of flyback

One thing that’s a big failure point is the plastics! Have you figures out the gentlest way to disassemble them? I have one in pieces that I was hoping to use to learn how to open my intact example…

Yes. Flyback is in excellent shape. Upon inspection I think I made a mistake in my previous repair and didn't re-connect something in the right way. UGH. I am going to have to do some more experimenting.

The plastics are an absolute nightmare. My best advice is to follow the Apple Service Manual exactly. It's very, very frustrating to open this thing because it cracks and pops and leaves tiny bits of plastic everywhere. :(
