Anyone refurb 400K Floppy drives?

I have a 128k with internal and external drive and both are in need of TLC, happy to pay someone for refurb/repair.
Please dont send YOUTUBE links, not able to do it myself.
Please respond if you can help.
Im on East coast U.S.

THANK YOU!

I'm in Maryland and have done a few SuperDrives and 800K drives. I don't know about 400K drives, they're a different beast

looks like you're gonna have to watch those videos and learn to do it!
Or I'll just ship them to the guy that I found today who was nice enough to quote me a very reasonable price to fix both drives..
I posted this many places, some are willing to help a fellow man.
Others, not knowing about a persons disabilities make stupid comments.

That's probably not an appropriately useful response to someone you don't know.

He didn't ask if he could do it or not: he asked if someone appropriately qualified has the ability to do it. It might also need a drive alignment, which may require a reference drive that he may not have access to.

They're not hard (mechanically.) It's just that the grease likes to harden and crystalize. It's a lot of physical work to safely loosen up the grease. I just used IPA.

* Edit: I just found out that "crystalize" is spelled four different ways: crystalize, crystallize, crystalise, and crystallise. I'm guessing the single and double L variant predate the Z and S, as the Z is just the weird American way of spelling it.

do you not believe they could service it? that's not a very nice or useful thing to say.
personally, I believe everyone can do anything they set their mind to

Well if he could, he probably wouldn't be posting here. He also indicated on another channel that he has a difficulty with fine motor control, which happens as you get older. Many old people also have less acuity in their eyes, so it's more difficult to do things that require precision.

You wouldn't ask someone who has a risk of seizures to fly a plane would you? Would you ask someone who has chronic asthma conditions to be a farmer? Someone who is really short, say less than 1.4 meters to work on an orchard? Someone who is 2.2 meters tall to crawl inside small airplane crawlspaces for service work?

Again, he didn't ask if he could do it or not. He asked if someone else appropriately qualified was able to do it for him.

i think that servicing a floppy drive is much lower risk than flying a plane.
also definitely not as difficult.
why so much negativity? why needlessly belittle someone?

not gonna lie, that's pretty Problematic :( 😕:cautious: 😠

again, I believe anyone can overcome any obstacles placed in front of them.

My understanding is that the 400k drives are much more difficult, though I have not worked on one myself as yet.
