Repeated keystrokes in NiftyTelnet

I'm connecting to a BBS through NiftyTelnet 1.1 SSH r3 on my SE/30, but for some reason every keystroke is repeated in the terminal window. I type a letter and it is immediately repeated as a capital letter.

I'm using system 7.1 and this is not a problem anywhere else.

Does anyone know what could be the problem?

There will be a setting called something like "local echo". Find it and turn it off.
