Macintosh 128k recap question (noob)

Hello! I recently purchased a nice looking Macintosh 128k—my first vintage Mac! It powered on but the puff of smoke and horrible smell told me that there is a RIFA cap that needs to be replaced. While I have it open, I was wondering if you guys could tell me what else Is typically replaced in these machines? Other caps? Thank you!

Each and every electrolytic should be changed as well. C1 can also be exchanged for a film cap if you cannot find an electrolytic...and it may be more tolerant of heat as well.

It sounds like the electrolytics are the round ones. Do you guys know of a kit available?

Not sure if that's exactly what you need, I have never had a 128k, but it is a good start. Just look through the list in that link and see if it looks correct? That link is for the analog board only.

That looks like a US one to me: international ones have four big purple caps towards the bottom right, not two.

If you could send me that list, I would appreciate it. I am a noob trying to learn my way around. I will also need the RIFAs.

I’ve yet to lose a RIFA, so I never replaced them…otherwise I’d list them!

Do you know the best place I can find the rifa?

Any decent component supplier will have them. RIFA are owned by Kemet these days but are still distributed under the RIFA brand. I usually get mine from RS in the UK which is just my default supplier for general electronics.

There are suitable film capacitors these days too, but if you're not feeling adventurous, replacing like for like is the most sensible option.

JDW has an analog recapping guide video with a linked Mouser cart of capacitors. Based on his picture of capacitor locations, it’s for a US analog board. (Japan is international but 100V, so you see both kinds here)
