PowerMac G4 MDD

Just scored a PowerMac G4 1GHz dual processors for 35 euros !

It came with 1GB of RAM instead of the original 256MB, installed 10.5.6 and everything's running fine 

I'm super happy as this is my first PowerMac and first machine I own with a G4

I have two of these and I love mine - yours looks to be in very nice shape and runs well, so it is an excellent score! Nice price too.

It has minor scratches and wear marks here and there but yes it is overall in good condition

The mirrored doors are bearly scratched which is nice. Plus as you said it's a steal for this price

By the way I don't know if any of you have tried CHUD v3.5.2 on PowerPCs but wow I'm amazed.

Just enabled "Nap" option in Hardware preference pane and my G4 went from 58C idle to 47 even 46C.

I guess this is similar to Intel SpeedStep that throttles CPU frequency as load decrease or increase.

The only major issue with these is the power supplies. Freaky lab type power supplies. If they burn out, unless you want to pay an arm and a leg, you need to do an ATX mod.

Or refurbish the power supply yourself which is documented over on the BadCaps Forum.

They are pretty easy to take apart and get more quiet better flow fans also.  I love your ability to show both sides Trag.

I had a FW800 that had a bad supply. Did an ATX mod, worked well, eventually outlived its usefulness. parted out what I could, then chuck the rest of electronics recycling. Damn thing was too heavy to do anything with

Congrats on the purchase!  They are quite indeed.  I have purchased a new old stock one a couple years ago, and I love that it can run Mac OS 9.2.2-10.5.8!  I did buy 2 new old stock power supplies as spares.  I suggest you find a spare as well.

I'm going to repartition the drive using Disk Utility tonight and drop an OS 9.2.2 system folder for the MDD to test it on the machine.

Hi have one of these I salavaged from the recycling. Has 2 drives and boots from osx or system9. I am trying to build a new fresh drive and have downloaded the install and restore from the garden but cannot get the dvd to work it says its the wrong disk. Ive tried to copy the 9 system flies to the drive but it won't boot. Anyone up to speed on these?
