"(Error #-199)" Error Code

When I try to install 6.0.8 on my Quantum Grand Prix HD it gives me the error message:

"There's a problem with the disk"Ehman HDD."

Installation cannot continue. The disk "Ehman HDD" may not be a usable startup disk.

(Error #-199)"

I'm not sure what's wrong with it, suggestions?

Have you formatted this drive recently? -199 represents a drive map error.

Alternately, try copying the files directly from the System 6 floppies to the drive. There is nothing to decompress on a System 6 disk so the files can be copied without any problems. If you have the 1.4MB floppies, just drag the System Folder over, then go to your System Additions disk for anything else you may want, like MacroMaker.

For some reason the drive copy’s some files, but not others. It seems to not copy system files but does copy non-system files.

Just to be clear, the hard drive info is:

2GB Quantum Grand Prix 50-Pin SCSI

What computer are you using, and what, if any, modifications have been done?

Have you tried to format the disk to < 2GB? Some ROMs don’t see more than 2GB correctly.

It's A Macintosh Plus w/ 4MB of ram, I've made a partition that's exactly 2GB, I'll make it slightly smaller...

Well what exactly happened to cause that?
Well, while I was using the Macintosh there were no problems, at first, but problems soon started to occur (repeatedly restarting) lt has always happened but usually stops.

in layman’s terms, I don’t know exactly what caused it.

Could be a problem with the analog board. Perhaps the voltages are out of range. You can measure them at the floppy port. Must be near 5 and 12. AB needs a recap.

Could also be a RAM problem. Clean and reseat the RAM.

Ahhh, the RAM is a good point.

its been upgraded anyway so I’ll check it. If it’s not the problem I’ll check the floppy port.

Well, I removed, cleaned, and reseated the RAM. It worked for a while but the problem came back, I’ll check the floppy port...

I believe I’ve found the problem

The wire harness that goes between the analog board and the logic board is finicky, whenever it is moved it causes a different symptom.

Examples being:

1. A weird distorted checker board

2. A line going horizontally across the screen

3. A line going vertically across the screen

4. A chirping noise

5. Repeatedly rebooting

It’s friggin’ weird.

Anyway, the Quantum Grand Prix seems to have bad sectors and I’m figuring out how to ether fix or flag them.

While working with the HDD what System should I work with?

I tend to like System 6 but I’m thinking about possibly getting System 7, anyone have opinions to share?

Haven’t posted in a while so I guess I’ll post now, how’s everyone doing?
