IIfx - 2014 restart

I liberated my IIfx from my attic where it's been for 10+ years.

I'm pretty sure I got this back in the late 90's from the University of Maryland Computer Recycler. I picked up a bunch of stuff back them when they were cheap. I paid somewhere around 20-50 for this I'm pretty sure.

It's dead as a doornail now- won't boot. It was working when I put it away. And it looks clean.

Looks like it had a Mac Video card and a Apple Ethernet card in it, plus a bunch of RAM.

Look at those batts- from 1989 and not a drop of a leak.

Check the area under the battery socket by the RAM and above the battery by the power switch; there are two of those @#&*$#@!! Leaky caps there. Check to see if they leaked and replaced them anyways! They leaked on my IIfx and I'm waiting on on a couple of caps to come in by mail. They are 47µf @ 16V.

Otherwise it looks clean! Congrats! Did you take out the video and ethernet cards?

You'll need new PRAM batteries on the mother board to turn on the IIfx. Or it can be jumped started by sending 3.5V through I believe pin 15 of the PSU's connector on the mother board.

I got new batteries about 2 years ago- I guess those may be dead. I'll scrounge some other Macs to salvage two good ones and test. I will also try the jump start.

yeah I see those 2 caps. They seemed clean- and no smell, but it hasn't been on in 10 years so maybe you don't smell them till they get hot.

The cards are not in those picts- look in the Gallery for lots more (link above). I'm pretty sure that's a real Apple ethernet, which means I can put AUX on this if I want. Which I may do.

Remove and clean the contacts for the ROM, and replace both batteries and make sure they are orientated the correct way.

Did the jumpstart- the PS seems DEAD as a doornail.

I grounded a new 3.6v battery and touched the pos side to the white wire coming into the mobo from the PS. Nothing.

I guess I need a new PS for this guy.

Are these rebuildable?

I was about to say "recap the PSU." Uniserver and/or TechKnight should be able to help out on how.
