  1. Well, it worked. Yesterday night before I turn off the computer, i erased the partition 1 and changed it from extended to standard. I installed again the international version of Mac OS 7.6 (the cd contains various languages and i installed the international English one). Now it boots normally and i installed also the Sonnet G3 drivers with success. So, the steps i did: I initialized the hard drive and created three partitions with disk setup 1.7.3: one standard and two extended. I installed firstly Mac OS 8.1 in partition 2 in order to be able to boot from hard drive and to b
  2. Yesterday evening finally i initialized my hard drive. Again 3 partitions but this time i made all of them extended. I used the drive setup 1.7.3 version. Can Mac OS 7.6.1 be installed in extended format drive? The other times i had the one partition standard and the other two partitions extended. I installed Mac OS 8.1 in partition 2 and runs with success. In partition 1 i tried a cd international Mac OS 7.6 from macintoshgarden and also system 7.5 version for Powermac 6100 but with booting a msg came on screen saying that i have to update my disk.
  3. I will check it when i get home. I will try to install also an international version of 7.6.
  4. It boots normally with the extensions off pressing the shift key. But i don't remember which version of drive setup i used to initialize my hard drive. For a year it was working perfectly until yesterday where my computer stuck with Pirates Gold (which was running just fine every time i was trying it, it's the first time this happened). Then i reset the computer and i couldn't boot with Mac OS 7.6.1.
  5. Back again for this. As i have read in internet, i assume that this problem is common. My Mac is the following: Performa 6116CD Sonnet G3 500 Mhz installed 136mb ram 73gb hard drive Apple 4x scsi cd Apple 8100 video card 4mb For years i had the same problem. I couldn't find a solution. I have 3 partitions on my hard drive: one for Mac OS 8.1, one for Mac OS 9 and for the remaining i want to have the 7.6 because it is really fast and some games (Gobliiins 1, Gobliiins 3, Lost in Time) run only with this version. Last year (after long time) i mana
  6. I agree. Years before i had a typical Philips VGA 14 inches monitor connected with my Mac Performa 6116CD. I started looking for an Apple Monitor and my first choice was the Apple Audiovision 14 Display monitor but it was difficulty to be found and usually very expensive. Finally i bought a Macintosh Color Display Monitor M1212 and i can say that the quality is fantastic. It has great sharp picture and all games look great. My dos computer is connected with a nice Sony 15" trinitron monitor and it is next to my Macintosh Color Display Monitor. I can say that Mac graphics which use usually bigg
  7. So, what happened? Did you buy the Apple Audiovision Display? i would like to read your opinion. As i have read it is one of the best CRT Apple monitors.
  8. My computer is a Power Macintosh G3 Minitower (300 mhz, 768mb ram, 120gb hd, Mac OS 8.1 and 9.2.2 installed, Ati Radeon 7000 32mb Mac edition). I use it for retro gaming. - This card is for sata I speed only? - What is the maximum speed that I can have with an ssd for this computer? - Does it have big difference on speed comparatively to ide hd? - In numbers, what (indicatively) speed may i have? - Can i boot from the ssd? - Generally is it worth having an ssd on this computer? thanks
  9. Has anyone tried this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Port-SATA-PCI-Controller-Card-Apple-Macintosh-PowerMac-G3-G4-G5-SSD-OSX-OS-9-/254669346388?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
  10. Thank you for the info. I have the Roland SC88 manual and it has the same computer cable wiring diagram. It seems that a serial cable is suitable for the connection but i am not totally sure. I have an extra cable and i will try to test it. If it's possible, i want to connect the SC88 with my Powermac G3 Minitower without using a midi interface device like the Macman Midi.
  11. i would like to ask if the RSC-15APL cable is the apple serial cable that fits into the modem or printer port.
  12. Capitalism with Roland Sound Canvas SC88
  13. Thank you. I am not a musician. I use the midi devices only for gaming because I've always technically loved the music and sound more than the graphics.
  14. This link is a video showing Sim City Classic (not SC2000) using the Roland Sound Canvas SC88 via quicktime for the music.
  15. Here is a video of Space Quest 4 with my Roland MT32 and Macintosh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKU2fRWd6gY
  16. Hello all, i have been very busy the last months and i have done some changes. As you can see at the picture i have made a midi tower. The Roland Sound Canvas SC55 Mark I, Yamaha MU50 and Roland CM64 are connected with my Cyrix PC. The Roland Sound Canvas SC88 is connected with my Macintosh Performa 6116 via the Macman Macintosh Midi Interface and the sound in port of the computer. In order to use it, i have to go to sound in panel and choose the "microphone" option. Finally the Roland MT32 is connected on both computers via a Midiburner midi switch with 2 positions, A and B. One m
  17. I forgot to mention that I need to install also the drivers in order for the Sonnet card to work. My floppy disk drive seems that it does not work anymore because i tried to install recently the drivers for sonnet and mac MouseStick with no success. Thanks to www.macintoshgarden.org i found the drivers and did my job. The good thing also is that you can go to sonnet extension and disable it. So you can have again the real speed. This only for games that run too fast. The difference is so big that you will never want to disable the sonnet. For me one of the best buys i have done for my Retro ma
  18. I have the Sonnet G3 NuBus at 500 mhz installed on all the three partitions of my hard drive and it works perfectly. I have installed Mac OS 7.6.1, 8.1 and 9.04. I think it works also with 7.5.3. Especially with the 7.6.1 my 6116CD really flies.
  19. Great info Cory. The Macintosh Color Display M1212 looks great with my Performa 6116CD. The quality is superb and every game looks fantastic with this sharp and small monitor. My computer is equipped with the Sonnet G3 500mhz and it is great for retro gaming. The only problem is that it has fixed resolution 640x480. But I have also installed the Apple 8100 video card with full 4mb video ram but i do not use right now. For some period i had connected the M1212 at the on board video port and one LCD monitor at the 8100's port. So i could play games with bigger resolution and i could choose what
  20. Hello, i would like to ask you what is your opinion about Apple CRT monitors and especially for games of monkey island era and mid 90s that use resolution 640x480. I have the Macintosh Color Display Monitor M1212 connected on my Macintosh Performa 6116. The picture is great and sharp. Every game looks fantastic. I have used other monitors like a Philips VGA 14", an LCD Samsung 15" monitor and a Sony FlexScan L23 12" monitor. All these monitors do not have the Macintosh Color Display's quality. The only monitor that has nice quality (you can have bigger resolutions than the M1212 t
  21. After 10 years with retro Macintosh gaming, the time has come to put also my dos computer on my office. On the dos pc i have a 15" sony trinitron monitor and on my Macintosh Performa 6116 i have the Macintosh Color Display Monitor M1212. I can say that the quality of the graphics of most mac games is better and everything looks amazing on the Macintosh Color Display. Small, sharp colors and pictures. Some games look lot better than dos version (for instance Flashback, Day of the Tentacle, Gobliiins etc.) I have used also the Sony Trinitron 15" on my Powermac G3 Beige but i think the Macintosh
  22. Do you know where i can find one sticker like that? My Performa 6116 has the sonnet g3 500mhz.
  23. I found what it happens. When i have the 3.5mm cable full connected in the adapter then the sound comes only from one speaker. I tested with one more set of speakers and i had the same problem. I tried to connect the 3.5mm jack having it little outside, not complete connection in the adapter and it works! Something has to do with the contact i guess. Below is the photo with the connection. I did that with three adapters and with all i had to play a little with the connection in order to hear both speakers. The same with my both cables, one cheap and one of good quality.
  24. I will give it a try. The Logitech x230 speakers play normally directly connected to the sound port of the Macintosh LC475. Sound from both speakers. Also the same from one cheap of speakers I had recently. I will try later a set of headphones.
  25. I've just tested the amplifier with the Roland MT32 and the sound is coming from both speakers. Great quality and so much louder. Only from my Mac computer the sound is coming only from one speaker. All tests with cheap adapters
