I must be the only one who thinks naming a non-living thing is kind of wierd?

Well, I finally got into the naming game also. It's also because I now run my own DNS on my network and well, now I had to ;)

It started with an old sparcstation 2 I owned (now sold), eventually, after some research, I decided to name it after it's 'codename' and that's Calvin. Ever since, the codename of a machine is the first resource I check for a hostname, and if the machine doesnt have a codename, well then I just have to be a little more original...

Here we go:

Apollo, Mac Classic II
Elsie, Mac LC 475
Fridge, Quadra 800
Crusader, Performa 6320

non-mac:
Osirix, SGI Challenge S R5000SC/180
Ghettorouter, K6-2/333, OpenBSD router/firewall/DNS
Burnmeister, P133, external yamaha scsi-burner.
HTPC, Duron 900
Dondervogel, Athlon 1400 (dondervogel is the literal dutch translation of thunderbird...)

My network is called macstuff.local , so the proper dns-name of the machines is, for instance, elsie.macstuff.local for the LC475

macstuff being the name of my studenthouse where i used to live and we didn't even have a mac there (long story...) :)

heh...

well I really need to get my other macs unpacked and a few "other" computers... like a few older PCs...

here, my TiBooks' "rendezvous" address is "pragma.local" local being the network and pragma being the TiBook... iGuess..

I don't have much UNIX experience... maybe I should get some

I can't remember the exact specs, but around 300MB of RAM.
~8GB SCSI drive.
USB card
17" Apple display
And prolly a USB CD-RW drive. (Yes, I know how badly USB drives suck)

But free is good. And I have a 266MB G3 card on my table for it.

Very nice...although you may want to replace your USB drive + card with a FW or USB/FW card and drive. It'll be much faster!
