I could accept a pre G3 PPC forum, but not here and the 'in-kind' URL would be tough: www.preg3mla.com.....

PPCIMLA? The NuBus slot manager architecture actually makes a much better, if less cleanly defined, dividing line in terms of hardware than the CPU generation.

"It's the economy O.S., stupid!"

Especially considering the number of (NuBus era O.S.)Mac emulation aficianados we have involved in the MLA!

I see 2 problems with this whole thing.

1, The "descision makers" say 68k, Apples only

2, That would mean old PPC's would have to be covered at a seperate site. Maybe 'm just lazy but to be honest I can't be bothered signing up for 2 seperate forums and flipping through both of them. If there were a PPC section here I'd use it, if it was somewhere else I'd just forget about.

My view? Obviously it doesn't fit with the name but like trash said I think anything with a nubus slot should be covered. So that includes first gen PowerMacs, which really aren't much more useful than 68k Macs anyway. Lowly Performas would be covered, they didn't have a nubus slot but they were pre PCI. To be honest though I don't care about Performa 5200/6200's plain and simple the worst 2 machines Apple ever made.

Exactly. NuBus PowerMacs and Performas up to but exclduing the 6360 and 5400 should be covered (the 6360 and 5400 and upwards are based on a PCI architecture)

They're NuBus "Architecture", as in they use the NuBus slot manager I/O commands/pseudoslot model for their interfaces. 1400 and 5300 PowerBooks would be included in there too, and I'd want the 6360/6500/TAM etc included because they use the old 68k VideoSlot peripherals even though they are really PCI machines, they're still 68k of a sort in my book.

But I'm happy with the definition as is, the lounge, help etc. are fine for PPC discussions.

i think that adding those more generic sections, and letting nuBus PowerPC posts in with the 68k-type posts would be great, that would prevent us from having to have a PowerMac forum, a PCI performa forum, a PPC PowerBook forum, and a NuBus psuedoslot like performa forum.... that's 4 forums we can eliminate the need for by going with a more generic forum system where topics such as "multimedia" can be discussed or "education" or "Internet on 68ks" which, BTW is a great spot for those things that end up in all of peripherals, software AND unix on 68k, in addition to the conquests and the lounge

I'm biased towards including x100 powermacs, simply because I'm just about to complete my collection of all 4 types. There's something neat in powermacs that use NuBus

i'm interested in knowing how one finds ANY 61/6200 that works at all... I have had 2 and they both pretty much had the same problem :crosses fingers:

if this 6500 doesn't work, I'm never buying a consumer aimed PowerMac again.....

Yep, same with me. I don't think its a good idea to splinter to have two different forums. I'd just like to see the PPC section opened and all PPC stuff handled in there. No need to differentiate between models. This is the 68kmla after all.

My 2cents.

hmm... i don't want to cause a split in the MLA or anything... and there IS supposed to be a NuBus PPC MLA on cory's forum once it gets up and running...

but i think that we need to take a vote, or something... unless the mla's not democratic and its all ~coxy's call (which i think is the case) but either way i think think we need to vote, that is, if we can...

EDIT:
I've set up a poll on my forum... for the rest of it registration is required but i'll make this thread to where guests can post... anyway, it's here:

I hope I hope. It should match the Q950 as my other bedside table quite well. Apart from that, I have no idea what I could do with the thing. It can be a therapeutic mac and keep me amused for a few days.

You need to perfect the art of looking sweet and innocent, or innocuous in some other way, it should all work well... then go for a couple of kicks to soft tissue. headbutts work well too (uhh, so I hear)

or ebay. that works too

That's totally self indulgent if you ask me. We all know you have a fetish for Performa I/O cards. So in that case I want Cubes included because they have ethernet, an internal modem, and limited upgradability (compared to a PowerMac) just like a Performa, in fact what is the difference

Yes remember you can discuss all the powermacs because you can connect them to your 68k & use them as peripherals.

Why has this topic lasted this long?
can it be restarted to save the loading of 30 posts in order to read the 31st post? it is taking a while for it to come up now.

erm the only cool(looking) macs are the 800 form factor macs & I do plan to own a couple, so a new forum can be 800 form factor macs :-)

dana do you have experience with dos cards & Quadra's

well gee wouldn't it be nice to have a place where these different things can be discussed in a different way... I mean "multimedia on 68k" topics in the lounge are great and all... but the lounge has alot of topics in it, I'd say at least 3 new every day, on average... most of these topics get less than ten replies....

we'd be able to focus more on what we're doing, and do more if the MLA were slightly better organized, we could drop some of the useless fat that noone likes anyway and add some more muscle and meat that is worth looking at and participating in.

if there's a newton and apple II sections here, WHY is there not a "general 68k devices" section... I mean... it'd be just ever-so-wonderful if we were to be slightly more inclusive of sega things, toasters and amiga/ataris
