well, I guess that this is a mac forum, so I'll leave out the several PCs that I've had to deal with1 Macintosh SE FDHD - system 6.0.8 (making install set) 1MB ram 20MB HDD (going to partition) Performa 600 - system 7.5.3 got it at a school rummage sale (boys HS soccer) - Performa Plus display Performa 578 - it's 2 less, yet 040-more than the 030 based perf 600 - brother has it, system 7.5.3 - (brothers 10, yet he doesn't need At ease) Quadra 840AV (did they make a non Av model...) - Mac OS 8.1 (works wonderful in 64MB of ram) - Adjustable keyboard (NIB) manual, disk - AudioVision Monitor (adaptor kit) - audio input thing Centris 610 (I think) - I ownde this for a whole 2 days, it went back to RePC - system 7.5.3 Mac LC II - system 7.0.1 - multiuser version of At Ease PowerBook 100 - don't know the first thing about it PPC 6100 - also doesn't work - monitor adaptor (use a svga monitor on it) PPC 7300 - had os 8.1 on it, then 9.0 - the best mac I've ever owned (except of course for no AV I/O) - ran like a dream with 64MB RAM umm... I want to just put a random mac model here to raise my score... I have dibs on the 6500 from an active in the community mac family I have no idea what's in it (does this raise my score any?) OH!!!! I forgot completely! iMavc rev.A 32MB RAM (HHHEEEEELPPPPP) mac OS 8.1 office 98 AppleshareIP 5 Official 68k videographer |

New to this forum, coming in from AppleFritter, here are my 68ks:PB160, "Piep" (pronounced like "Peep" in english), System 7.5 - Liberated last year for 100 guilders, this is my girlfriend's laptop. She plans to write a novel on it... Batteries are bad, one works for 15 minutes, other dies within a minute. Complete with external monitor adapter, and plaintalk mic, the color of the PB. The monitor is getting woozy, with horizontal and vertical lines, and needs much fidgeting to get to display the desktop. PB180 8/120, "Toet" (pronounced like "toot" in english), System 7.6 - Liberated a few months ago for 50 euros, this is the workhorse where I will be writing my first book on (yeah, like that would ever happen... ;-)) Battery defunct, contacts are shielded off with tape by previous owner who used it to control a cd-burner over a network. Plus 2/20 (with Apple sc20 external hd) - liberated for free from a friend of mine who switched to PC. Plus 2/40 (with unbranded external hd and daynalink scsi-to-ethernet adapter) - got this one from my work for 25 guilders. Is not very good any more, won't start at times. I'd like to put it on the internet as a webserver, to prove it can be done; but my provider uses DHCP, and I don't think system 7 can handle that. I haven't figured it out yet anyway.0 SE 4/20, system 6.0.8 - Another Mac, previously of my parents. If I remember correctly, this was my very first Mac and I think I got it somewhere around 1994. I had a Plus ED in my flat earlier, around 1992-1993, but that was a borrowed one. The ED is no longer mine, I think it went to a friend. Classic 4/40, system 7.0 Dutch - This one was my parents' first brand new computer. But it's soooo sloow, even at that time. It now thinks it's January 1st 1904. SE/30 8/80, system 7.5.5 US - The computer that replaced the classic. What a difference. This one suffers from a nervous screen sometimes, but is still used occasionally to write stuff on. SE/30 8/1GB, system 7.5.5 US - this one's got a PDS ethernetcard (which I didn't get the damn thing to recognize yet) malfunctioning screen AND non-functional FD :-( The screen is resizing at random. It had a 80mb hd wich didn't work, so I replaced it with a 1GB SCSI drive. It boots way slow now. IIsi 5/40, system 7.5.3 US - bought in '96 or so as a backup system. Never used much. IIcx 8/40, system 7.0.1, two videocards, ethernetcard - bought this one from my work for 20 euros. It's specially equipped for driving a laserdiscplayer with a monitor from a SuperCard database on the Mac. IIx 8/40+80, system 7.5.3 - the Mac that successed the SE/30. Crippled with all kinds of problems with the PRAM battery and SCSI IDs, and the lack of my knowledge and efforts to help it. Won't boot anymore. LCII 8/80, system 7.5 - barebones system, bought on an Apple club day for 5 euros. LCII 6/80, system 7.0.1 Dutch - bought for 5 euros on a flea market. It even has Adobe Illustrator 5.0 and Quark Xpress 3.11, plus manuals! Case is very yellow, and the battery is not so good anymore. The system always boots in b/w, even though I selected colors before. Performa 460 5/160, system 7.5.3 Dutch - bought for 10 euros on an Apple club day. Chock full of games and other software, like netscape 2. Didn't look at it much yet... Quadra 660AV 40/220, system 7.5.3 US - Got this one last year for free, for helping its owner to transfer its data to a PC. It's got a caddy cd-player, which when loaded with a cdrom causes the machine NOT to boot at all. Probably a wrong scsi-id. LC630 8/250, system 7.5 US - another backup system from my parents. It's now my girlfriend's Mac. Not that she uses it: she keeps computing on her Pentium 233, eventhough it shows her more and more blue screens. sigh. Greetings, Arthur (won't mention the PowerMacs, iMac and the Apple //c...) I'll never get out of this world alive... Liberated 14 68k Macs! |

Just an UPDATE to my collection:"Atreides" is history. Case used for an SE logic board. Above machine is now "Leah" - effectively a Mac SE even if it is in the wrong case LCIII - "Maranello" is also history - broken for parts New LC - "Pikachu" "Boston" now has a Turbo 040 and a Thuinder IV gfx board. "Chicago" resultantly gets the Precision Colour 8 board. Okay, all mine have been 'liberated', none were new purchases: Compacts: Plus, 2.5MB RAM, external 20MB SCSI HD. SE, 4MB RAM, internal 250MB HD, internal Ethernet. SE/30, 32MB RAM, internal 250MB HD, internal Ethernet. (Named 'The SEx Machine', because the MacII upgraded to 030 became the IIx, so you'd think an SE upgraded to an 030 should be the SEx. :-) Classic, 4MB RAM, no internal HD (boot from ROM, baby.) Classic II, dead. :-( Color Classic, upgraded with an honest-to-goodness Classic II mobo, 32MB RAM, 250MB HD, internal Ethernet.IIs: IIci: 32MB RAM, 'testbed' for HDs and NuBus cards, so it has no fixed HD. (Currently has a newly-acquired 8*24GC, plus two 8*24 cards, for a 4-monitor setup. >:-) IIfx: 8MB RAM (anyone know of a good source for fx SIMMs?), 500MB drive, Asante NuBus ethernet card, the $10,000 monster! IIsi: 5MB RAM, 80MB hard drive, and a VideoSpigot card. With matching 13" 'Apple Color Display' LCs: LC: 6MB RAM, 40MB HD, complete with matching 'Apple 12" Color Display', i.e., the low-res display. (Named 'Elsie', creative, eh?) LC III: 20MB RAM, 120?MB HD Centris 650: 8MB RAM, 250MB HD Quadras: 610: 20MB RAM, 250MB HD 660AV: 20MB RAM, 500MB HD 700: Two of 'em, both with 20MB RAM, 250MB HDs. Contraband desktops: PM6100/66 DOS Compatible PM7200/75 PM7500/100 (Upgraded to 604/120) PM8500/180 (Dying) PM7300/200 PMG3 (beige, 233MHz, rev a, 512MB RAM, 3 HDs totalling 8GB, my OS testbed, has 8.1, 9.2, and 10.1.5 on it.) iMac rev b (160MB RAM, has Jaguar on it.) Contraband portables: PB5300c: 2 of 'em, both have defects, plus one perfect one out on loan PB5300ce: The de-luxe $6,500 original PPC PB PB1400cs: My dad won $5000 in computers from MacWarehouse, he could only afford the low-end 1400 at the time, he sold it to me last year for $200, upgraded with a G3. PB3400: Dead :-( Non-Mac computing devices (the horror!): PC #1: AthlonXP 1700+ (1.46GHz), Abit AT7 motherboard, 512MB RAM, 160GB RAID (2*80), A-I-W Radeon (my PC) PC #2: Pentium III 1GHz, Intel D815EEA motherboard, 512MB RAM, 60GB drive (wife's machine) PC #3: Pentium II 233MHz (preproduction, so early it doesn't even say 'Pentium II' on it. :-), Intel SE440BX motherboard (again, preproduction, so early it doesn't support the 100MHz front side bus, which was the entire purpose of this motherboard!), 512MB RAM, 80GB RAID (2*40), server. PC #4: Pentium 233MMX, Toshiba manufactured system, 512MB RAM, Windows 95 (son's machine) PC #5: Sony Vaio C1X 'PictureBook' notebook computer, Pentium 266MMX proc, 64MB RAM, upgraded to a 20GB HD. I posted my entire list a while back in my intro, but have added a couple since then:Powerbook 180 (bought for $15 with a bad hard drive. replaced the hard drive and it runs like a champ. 8/160 configuration Duo 280c (bought in non-working state for $25) 12/240/apple express modem. Reset the power manager and it works great, though it needs a new batery. Believe it or not, this $25 Duo has a perfect, no bad pixel screen. :-) Sometimes you just get lucky.

Unfortunately, no names but here is the much loved collection of vintage machines that get rotated on and off the desk when the mood strikes. Some were given to me, some were liberated, none were bought new. Just need to find a good condition 128K to finish off the collection of compacts1 - 512 1 - Plus 1 - SE w/ Radius 25 accelerator and FPD card (no FD monitor) 2 - SE/30 1 - IIciw/ daystar 040 card 2 - IIfx 1 - classic 1 - classic II 1 - Color Classic 1 - LC 475 1 - LC (dual floppy and silent} 1 - IIsi 1 - Quadra 840AV Current favourites are the 840AV and the IIfx - nothing like speed! Couldn't afford either of these computers when new and was lusting after them. The IIfx was something like $15,000 CDN in the configuration that I have. Kami

Black Hammer is a Audio/Video Wizard who likes to chomp data, reconstruct audio and video streams in realtime, browse the web with Netscape Gold, make quicktime movies and boast about being the cheapest yet fully armed AV solution for mankind, even beating his older brothers to a race. Who is he? Maxwell is a slim girl who enjoys basking in the fresh arora of AppleTalk Serial connections. She has room for a Nu friend, but her friend has to be willing to "bend over sideways" for her. She isn't that fast anymore, but she is still loved by all her family. She's the cute little sister who never grew up. She also enjoys eating Pizza from time to time and likes doing prank calls with her phone. Her door chime is the richest of them all, and she can hold 160 marbles jiggle them from 0 to 1 over and over. She also can float her integers, and has much fun doing this. She also tends to lie on a aprox. 10 degree angle. Who is she? Great minds...Great minds...Think Different. |
