Hey there! I just thought I'd throw in my Mac's and their names:

  • My PowerBook G4/500 is called "Difference Engine", after the early steam-powered computer designed and (partially) built by Charles Babbage in the 19th century. If you don't know about Babbage and his Difference (or the Analytical) Engine, it's well worth looking up- a really amazing man, cursed to be too far ahead of his time. Anyway, with the TiBook's smooth metal design, I couldn't help but name it after a steam-powered computer! [

  • My 'new' Rev. A iMac, which (as some of you might already know from the MacAddict forums) I was lucky enough to buy for only $35 at the local Goodwill! It came with a Pro Keyboard and Pro mouse (each worth more then $35 by themselves...), but the CPU card was blown. A kind soul donated his 'old' 333 mHz card from a later model iMac, and now the little-iMac-that-could is up and running again! Anyway, in honor of it's cool color, it's now going to be called "Deep Blue". It's survived repeated brain-surgery, as well as several (failed) attempts to mount neon lights inside... I can't wait till that's working....

  • PowerBook 1400cs/133, called "Osborne 1", after the super-cool early CP/M based portable computer system.
  • PowerBook 180/33, called "Kaypro II", after the (other) super-cool early CP/M based computer system. I actually had one of these systems (the Kaypro II) a few years ago- the thing was built like a tank! For all I know, it might still be at my dad's house...

  • Mac Quadra 950, called "HAL 9000". This computer is (so far as I'm aware), the second-most powerful 680x0 based system ever shipped (only behind the Quadra 840av), and is certainly the LARGEST Mac I've ever seen! One of these days I'm going to laquer(sp) it flat black and install some sort of glowing red eye... then it'll really live up to the name!

  • [*]Lastly, my Newton 120, called "PADD", after the little flat-panel PDA-type things seen on "Star Trek: The Next Generation". The Newton is such a cool gadget....

Over the years I've owned many, many more Apple's and Mac's, but these are the one's I've got right now. Of course, I can't go without a shout-out to my first Mac, a vallient Plus called "The X Files", that got me through grade scholl and my one year of High School! Sometimes I really miss that little Mac... it ended up at a dump, after the screen imploded during a late-night... uh... science experiment with a few friends. Oh well...

Later,
SpaceBoy

{Edited for crappy use of forum code... BTW, how come I can't have more then 5 bulleted items?}

My iBook 600 finally told me her name: Galadriel. I'm kind of wondering why she picked that name -- I don't think I've visted any LoTR websites on her.

Ad Astra (my main PC) is really happy to have another woman computer in the house.

lol, ya, I hack things. I want to buy every 500 series PowerBook out there, but that will be hard for the following reasons.

1. money
2. 550 rarity
3. people not willing to separate....

I'm obsessed with those things.

BTW, the beige iMac sorta fried..... The screen died anyhow. I was too lazy to put ventalation in the thing which caused this to happen.... The plastic in the top of the 580's case started melting.... I need to get some pics taken and put on my site.

Well....

I have:
Mac IIsi- Amanda: Hoping to install A/UX on it, but I have no idea if my external CD-ROM works. Person I got it from installed 7.6.1 on it. Horribly slow because of it.

Performa 6200CD- Zeus: Not a 680x0, but my favoite mac to use. Anyone know where I can get OS 8 for it? (besides Ebay, not an option for me)

Beige Plus- Left Tes-Tic-Le: My first real computer. I still love it!

Bege Mac128 w/ plus upragde- Right Tes-Tic-Le: My second Plus. Seems strangly slow compared to my other plus, especilly since this one has more RAM.

Classic: Non-functional. The display refuses to light up.

Classic II: Also non-functonal. Strange patterns on the dispay.

Compaq Presario 5062: I hate the fact that its a Compaq, but it's worked better since I installed Win2k on it.

Also, I have a basement full of parts.

One of my macs got made the mac of the weed when in fact it didn't exist (my fault) so I'm updating my list

** Quadra 800 - "Layla" - 36 megs / 2 gigs / 2x caddy cd

** Quadra 660av - Unofficially, "my baby" - 36 megs / 350 megs / 4x tray loader cd

** The LC NES, an LCII in an NES (8 bit nintendo) casing. There's been a problem with fitting the floppy drive, so pics aren't available yet...

** Lime iMac rev d (333 mhz) - 192 megs / 13 gigs

** An 840av frankenmac to come!

quote:

Mac Quadra 950, called "HAL 9000". This computer is (so far as I'm aware), the second-most powerful 680x0 based system ever shipped (only behind the Quadra 840av)

-SpaceBoy

I've heard that the Q800 is faster due to its newer and presumably more efficient design. Anyone?

dunno it needs faster RAM but the buses are the same speed, don't know about interleaving, but if you max out both systems, i can't see the 800 keeping up. it'd be interesting to dig out a magazine with the bar charts. it'd probably be a horserace unless the 800 had faster disk i/o? hmmm?

My turn:

PM 8500 *DAISY*:
OC g3@ 420
768 meg ram
Pci Radeon
Ultra ATA Card
40gig 7200 Seagate Barracuda drive (completely silent, sweet drive)

I painted the case competition orange w/ 2 white racing stripes down the front. I'll post some pics if anybody wants to see.

Quadra 950 *TANK*:
256 meg ram
2gig Seagate Barracuda drive (Drive is named JET ENGINE)
Raid of 4 250 meg drives
VideoVision Studio Card w/ breakout box

I got this out of somebody's garbage (it had a sign that said "free" on it) Along with it, there was a 21" Supermac mono display. I already had the videovision card. It just gave that away, because it was too big and had uber screen burn-in. It was raining that day and my dad (who is anti-mac) gave me crap for getting it, saying it wouldn't work. It works great as a file/web server and as a tribute to all macs facing peril against winblows users everywhere.

Quadra 700
I killed it accidently.

Quadra 650
*My first mac and now my sister's journal*

Performa 476
no name, don't use it

PB165 *notanewton*
Currently dead - corrupt system folder.

Mac Classic *ALarm Clock*
4 meg ram upgrade

Newton 130
no name, i choose not to name it, no name could be better than newton.

Also,
Apple OneScanner
Apple Laserwriter II NTX (just gave it away today, bad paper feeder)

I have tons of little odds and ends, not to mention many pieces. but those are the few that are either working or could be with some effort. I only mess with the 8500 and the 950. The rest hardly see daylight.

i'm currently debating getting 2 more 950s from a friend and set up an appleseed cluster, but i'm not sure if it's worth the struggle. They are in need of some work.Go to Top of Page

I've updated the Tally page - and have added a rating showing the total MIPS of our 68ks!

EVERYMac notes:
1) Don't edit your old posts for updates - add a new one at the bottom
2) Don't list all your collection when you update, just the new ones.
This will keep the Tally accurate!
