Would one of those PAS cards still work in a 650/660?

The NuBus version would work, not the LC version. BTW, I called Shreve and the $2 cards are all bare LC PDS cards w/o cable or breakout box, so they're probably useless, none were NuBus or I would have snagged one or two at that price. IIRC, she said they still had some LC cards at the $19.99 price

The PCB in the breakout box is a LOT more complicated than a straight cable to RCA/mini-pnono jack breakout circuit, but that MIGHT just be due to the joystick port circuitry, but don't count on it. it didn't look like it back when I opened mine up, IIRC.

there's N0 way the 650 is fitting in an SE case - not even w/o a monitor...

Do something creative for the case! Find an old TV and stick it in there. You could even fit the monitor (still in its casing, of course) inside where the TV screen goes. Or you could put the 650 (we hope) into a homemade wood box. Have fun with it. Don't let the lack of a case stop you!

GrayAmp is the best mp3 player that I've tried for low end PPC's but it's a bit out of date now.

I tested GrayAmp with a VBR mp3 and it was a no go.

It also choked on a mp3 file having a id3v2 info tag.

I can finally answer what's planned for the Mpegdec PPC version.

I've got the EQ going and also got mp3 streaming from icecast or shoutcast servers happening as well.

I'm testing the PPC version on a 6100 PPC and the speed is ok, just a bit slower than GrayAmp.

I'm going to include the mp3 streaming for the 68k version as well if I can.

Right now I don't see any problems with doing 68k mp3 streaming as long as the users internet connection is fast enough and they have OpenTransport installed

I should release the new version soon.

I'm just finishing a few minor things and then it will be ready.

Sounds great, are you making any headway on the 68k/DSP code?

As soon as the new PPC and 68k versions are finished I'll complete the 56k DSP version.

It won't take long as I've already got 95% of the DSP version done.

I have a IIfx I can use to test things, as well as a Quadra 950.

Either of them can use the National Instruments Direct Memory Access or WaveForm cards, if you might happen to know how to tap into them with the programme.

The SE that started this thread would be good for fileserving only, and only with Ethernet of some kind.

I thought I'd do an update on the new version of Mpegdec without creating a new topic.

m3u and pls icecast and shoutcast streaming works on both the PPC and 68k version now.

The new version lets apps run in the foreground while the mp3 or streaming is running in the background without slowing things down too much.

The new version works in a different way than previous versions and I think it is a tiny bit faster.

With the PPC version I can get a 226 kbps VBR mp3 playing on my 601 60Mhz but using other apps at the same time the mp3 is playing gets a bit slow.

MpegDec 3.0 should be released soon.
