It would be on like a contract thing, a fare share I know. But I have to prove I am able to do it, there showing I have the resources.

Also to add this PC would make it perfect for my video camera which needs RCA ports which are built into the front, 6 PCI so I we can get a firewire video camera I can put a firewire card in.

I know this is nitpicking, but, what are you going to use the 6 PCI add whatever cards you want plus new DAV slot prototype PEx?

I dunno, thats what lost me. Not trying to be insulting or nuffin, just tryin to get the facts here.

i'm trying to figure out if it's something i can live with, you say you've got a 5400 mobo of your own? that's exactly the same as the 6360 with the single slot PCI riser, correct? i thought there were some loose boards, or did it just end up being the two you mentioned?

not getting a PEx board is bothering me a lot more than i wanted to admit.

You are gettin a PEx mobo! Remeber Captain is taking one tower (9700) and the PEx mobo and testing both and then sending you the working one, now there are mobos that would fit your son's computer just mine is the fastest at 180Mhz, and I thought that would just be fine cause I am sure the others are just 601 mobos where mine is a 603e 180, let me know I really want that computer from my friend and if I know today what your going to do I can get it and it will make my birthday the best! Thanks.

No. Let me reiterate what I said earlier.

You send me 9600 (in case), and 9700 motherboard
I test both.
If both works, then Trash can get the 9600 Motherboard

What you are saying would be no problem for me, but then the question is who get's the 9600?

it's clear from Ti's post on fritter that he doesn't really NEED the PEx after all.

he already sold one minitower prototype on eBay.

Ti's original claim was for one minitower and one desktop.

something is just not right with this scenario, in my opinion.

i think it'd be really unseemly for that PEx tower to end up sold to an outsider if everyone didn't at least get a working first choice box out of this deal or, in my case, the first choices of any unanticipated schwag...

to my way of thinking, all the "extra" PEx boards would fall under the heading of additional loot that we had not anticipated. this was consistently my claim after it appeared that all the high end systems that i had desired (in a last "first round draft pick" kind of arrangement) had been sold/multiply-claimed out from under me.

does anybody in the consortium dispute this interpretation?

I've known for a while that Ti doenst need the PEx (hence my question before). I had offered him to trade my G3 system for his 9700 tower if he REALLY wanted a "fast" machine that bad. He declined this, so i assumed he really just wanted cash to go spend on something else in thelong run. I have no problem with that whole idea, trying to get money and all. The part that bugs me is people (especially trash who put in WAY more time and energy then most) are getting screwed over for it. As i was asking Ti in private (never got an answer), how many A/V personality cards are there? If Ti really wants money, sell 2-3 of these and have around $300, dont cheat people outta machines they deserve.

The reason I don't want the G3 Begie is because one, I could not get it to work, two everyone I asked said forget that keep the PEx the value is higher, three I have always wanted a mini tower PPC.

you've had a LOT of opportunity to get in touch with me privately about this or any other concern, Ti.

your contingency plan to sell the 9700 is something i view as a personal insult and ethically deplorable. i am very dissapointed in you, Ti. i had thought a lot more of you than your behavior in this endeavor has led me to believe was appropriate, i still hope i am mistaken.

As far as I know, there are no A/V cards included that worked on the PEx boards (BTW, the codename for these cards is "Deacon Blues"). These aren't personality cards (I think), so the system should run without any installed.

No Captain, the [b]G3[?b] personality cards. Ti, this is the kind that u said you put in my G3. It looked (fromthe orig auction pics) like there quite a few of these. Now i still want mine to come in my G3 [;)}, But i'm sure the rest of the machines have no need, so take thos, they, like u said, make a good deal on ebay.

Oops... I though you were talking about A/V Personality Cards, like the ones used in Beige G3's. Not the A/V connector things.

(Momentary brain fart. I've been opening up G3 AIO's all day seeing A/V Personality Cards, and for got what I was talking about.)

Also, maybe we should start thinking of locking down this topic and expanding it into a new topic. The only reason I say that is because it take forever to reply to a message (takes around 30 seconds for me to load the reply page). Does 600 posts sound like a reasonable cutoff before we move to a new topic?

Heh actually i was talking aboot both, but yeah, either way, there are enuf lil rare tidbits in this thing that I'm sure if Ti wants cash, there is plenty there. I mean, if that whats he wants, i say we may as well help him find what he can seel for the most profit and wher, thus securing everything else. Then again, just a thought.

Also, in response to Cap. Z's response, i agree. I mean yeah it works quick enough down here on the iMac (altho even that refresgh isnt too quick) but once you start getting on lower and lower machines (less RAM and speed and whatnot), this page becomnes a killer to reply to. Then again, I don't think the forums were meant to handle this kinda a thread .

I'm with JT on this whole-heartedly.

If Ti originally claimed a desktop [I do recall he was going on about a 6100?] and a mini-tower, and he sold a mini-tower already, it doesn't make ANY sense AT ALL that he a) gets a PEx mobo for himself AND b) gets to trade an ADDITIONAL 6400 for a PC that he "needs" for video and photoshop

anybody else with me?

thanks for the support, fw! but Ti got in touch with me privately and i gave him "what for" already. lets all give him a chance to come around, i think he'll do, OK. my kid is older than Ti is and i wouldn't want him to have to deal with the kind of temptations Ti has been facing for the last few weeks on a daily basis.

platinum fever has taken its toll on ALL of us at times in this endeavor. i'm still hoping there can be a happy ending. give it a little time and a lot more patience!

I HAVE THE FIRST UPDATE!!!!

I received my package today from ti and here's the scoop:

First off, i took some pictures and there are now here

I will begin with the small stuff:
The ethernet "repeater" was just a 10-base 2 / 10baset adapter. not a bug deal, i knew somebody that needed that.

The philips video card (which i took 2 pics) is super cool.
1) it is labeled "pcb, ld50 tv tuner *** ap2414-02 *** Apple Computer Inc. (c) 1994" the *** mean a new line.
2) it has NO female slots and NO male slots.
3) it measures about 4 in x 6 in.
4) It has on one side (i'm calling it the back) a co-ax plug, one composite plug, and a phonojack plug (NOT the typical power plug that has the middle shaft.)
5) other side has a phono jack (audio out?), a composite plug, a rca plug, and to the far end something that looks like an infrared sensor.

I did some searching and here are some interesting facts:
1) LD50 was the code name for the mac tv.
2) as far as i could find all the tv tuner cards that i could find were to be in some slot of some kind
3) I have found NO info regarding this card at all, as far as i know it doesn't exist.

If i were to guess, it looks like it could have gone in a separate box that was intended to be just for tv tuning and captured on a mac, again, i'm just guessing.

and last off the freakentosh!:

Here is the bad news... the processor has been badly damaged leaving 4-5 leads cut away from the mobo!!!! It looks like somebody jabbed at it with a screwdriver. (Ti??? j/k)

Good news: it looks like a great piece of apple history.

It has a small yellow sticker that you can see in the last picture that says "90 mhz 601" and the processor is indeed a 601, so i'm assuming it's 90 mhz. It looks identical to my friend's 7200/75 except for 4 chips that are to the left of the rom upgrade slot. on his machine, they are labeled #####6-9 so i'm guessing that they might be roms. I pictured all the labels except all of grand central, my camera was running out of batteries. I'll eventually get better pictures and locations of where everything is.

The cd rom ti sent me was an IDE which is useless to me until i put my 8500 in a large pc case (which will be soon)

overall it was sad to see that the freakentosh was not going to work, but it's still a great machine to have around. unfortunately the case is beaten up badly and isn't worth using for another mobo. the quote on the board was funny: "your plastic pal who's fun to be with" what that means, i don't know, but i will be stealing it for my profile. I think i documented everything about the freakentosh, the tv tuner is a different story, that's a total mystery to me and i might need help figuring out what it is.

until next time...

It could be the processor board for the Apple Presentation System (the one where you connect your Mac to the box, and box to TV). Only a guess though. If not, I would say you have a very rare board.

Sorry to hear that your Freakintosh is non-functioning.

It could be possible Apple intentionally did this when they were discarding the system. The thing that caught my eye there was the words Catalyst Validatition. Catalyst was the codename for the Power Mac 7200, and this very well could have been the last prototype model before they went to production. If this is true, then they probably damaged the processor because of that (after the said yes to production).

(BTW, your pictures are quite excellent. Very clean and clear)

I have the apple presentation box made by focus enhancements. It was packaged by apple but manuals and the actual presentation box has no apple logos. I thought of that too, but since my box isn't made by apple it's hard to compare. Was there another presentation box made by apple that somebody here could post pictures of?

as far as the damage goes, it wouldn't surprise me at all that apple did it. Penguin and i were talking about that earlier. Everything was shipped well and traveled fine so it had nothing to do with, the case was just very well used.

i forgot to mention the catalyst wording.

i don't think so, i think most apple branded peripherals are OEM'd by other companies.

is that corner of the proc the only damaged circuitry?

is there still some metal from each pin sticking out of the plastic/ceramic package?

that may be something that can be repaired!

can you get a REALLY tight set of shots of that damage?

yep, i've thought of that and i'm going to do a little more research before i send it off to him. Maybe we could do it all as one big article? Since everybody knows that's it from use there's no reason to be shy about it. just a thought.

not much, but there wasn't much there to begin with...

yep, i'm hoping i could pay somebody to take a look at it, i don't know anybody that's does that kind of stuff. I'm going to ask around at the community college where i goto school.

Yes and no. I can get out a slr and some serious macro lenses and shoot with that, but that will take a while to process. My digital isn't going to do much better than what it's done, i'll see what i can do.

also, i'm concerned about getting the processor fixed if there are still no roms to boot off of. I suppose i could try what i mentioned above with osx. YIKES!! osx on a 90mhz 601.... days go by before it boots..

whatever you do, don't wriggle the metal around at all on the damaged pins.

you'll probably have just one shot to get them bent so that they don't short against each other. when pins like that break off from metal fatigue, there's not always enough left exposed to solder a jumper wire onto.

a few shots from different angles might be good enough for us to see how bad it is.

speaking of ROMs, has anybody googled the ID numbers on the two IC's between the ROM slot and the DRAM slots on the frankentosh mobo yet?

hmmmm.... i don't think my camera is going to do it. here are 2 shots:
http://homepage.mac.com/avavricek/PhotoAlbum9.html

i looked as close as i could and counted the empty slots on the bottom and counted how many leads i had and it looks as if one is missing. I think i know where it's at and it nothing sticks out. it looks like the same leads might run below the processor which you can sorta see in the blown up show of the lead on the left. It shoots off to the right, but there is also a wire that runs behind and then below. I can't see much else. the one that is missing is the second from the left.

I think they might be cache. everymac said the 7200/90 had 32k of L1 cache and upgradable L2, which is what the slot is for.

the pic of the chips are here:
http://homepage.mac.com/avavricek/PhotoAlbum10.html

btw if the photo album is a pain let me know, but also tell me how to post a link of just the picture and skip the itools stuff. i don't know how to.

here's the format:
http://homepage.mac.com/jwt1863/.Pictures/Shop/MicroQuadra_Portrait.jpg

copy the pic to your pictures folder renamed as "test.jpg" and try it.
http://homepage.mac.com/avavricek/.Pictures/test.jpg

you can add the foldernames for the path and then the real filename too if that's how your album is set up.

btw: the format is case sensitive!

and i couldn't open the pic of the IC's in the new album.
