Well, um, I'm going to sound pathetic. I'm not too decked out. But I love my quadra so i gotta talk about it.

*Quadra 660av
*AudioVision 14 display (good speakers! and abd ports)
*16 megs of ram but ive got more that ill be putting in
*WAS runnin 8.0 but was too slow so im back to 7.1
*1 GB hard drive
*Dual processors, oh yeah! 25 mhz 040 and some AT&T dealie
*2 partitions, one for linux, which im learning
*Ambrosia games, random crap
*Quicktime 4 - never know when you'll need it

One reason I'm pathetic is that I can only run 640 by 480. But hey, could be worse. At least I get thousands of colors

I just made this sig, i hope it doesn't suck

that AT&T dealie you speak of isn't a second processor in the traditional sense. Instead, it is a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) co-processor. It handles audio/video functions so the 68040 can do the rest. All (both) A/V macs had this AT&T coprocessor (840av, 660av)

My Quadra 700 isn't particularly tricked out. However, 500MB HD, 64 MB RAM, OS8.1 sure runs a lot of vintage apps faster than my IIsi ever will... On the downside, that Quadra is damn noisy!

Stock 660AV with 16mg RAM, 14av monitor, tray load CD rom, floppy drive, extended keyboard and I have a 25" TV hooked up to use as the monitor (Very Cool!) Also I hook up my Video Camera sometimes to record little clips from. It blows me away that this old thing could do all this right out of the box!

You know, we could all have as many quadras as we wanted if we'd shell out tons of cash. eBay has em all the time and so does this site someone posted on the macaddict 68k board a while ago where i picked up some free stripped LCs. ill find that link, but it was kind of ridiculous. something like 150 bucks for a Q900 with no HD or RAM.

The T.V. works pretty well a little adjustment to the color, contrast and it looks good. It's fun to see a PeeCee Dweeb's jaw drop when I show them that trick!

I posted this on MA awhile ago. There are still a lot of Quadras if you want to pay for them. There are 2-IIcx left for free. http://www.refurbmadness.com/code/68k_macinventory.shtml

That is a straight up rip-off.

I once saw an 2 auctions on eBay for Quadra 950 "Servers". They were both loaded up with 4GB HD's, 144MB of RAM, 100Base-T NuBus Ethernet, and a 24-Bit Graphics card. They were being sold off from Northrop Grumman (on Long Island, about 10 miles from me). The final cost for each of them was $60 and $66. I regret not bidding...

Why did you pass them up?? That's an incredible deal! Man, a 4 gig scsi HD by itself would run you at least that much, I'm sure more. Whoever was selling those things sure got ripped off. Then the ram, and of course the machine itself which is worth a pretty penny. The guy selling it must have titled it wrong. That'll stop anything from selling. He probably said "Vintage Quadra Server Computer" or something dumb like that.

The reason I didn't buy it is because I have no money.

The guy didn't get ripped off. I said that the servers were being sold from Northrop Grumman. Northrop Grumman was on of the main constructers of military vehicles in the United States. A few years back, they lost thier defence contract with the Department of Defence, and went bankrupt. They have been selling off all thier equipment for about 4 years now.

The auction was titled "Quadra 950 Server", but it was placed in the Server catagory on eBay, not 68K or Vintage catagories.

Uh... guys? For all of those who say they'd die happy with a Quadra 840 AV... I just happened to stumble onto one a few months ago. If I weren't a die hard Mac addict, I wouldn't have taken it. I know, it's practically blasphemous to speak such a thing, but they are a little too limited to actually use.

I am actually in the process of turning the Quadra into an internet router, but I need to obtain a copy of OS 8 install CD. I'm having too many problems with the current configuration, so I either want to start fresh or dump OpenBSD on it.

Um... to possibly enhance your drooling, I also have the following:
Macintish Classic
Macintosh LC
Quadra 650

Hahahahaha... sorry guys. I'll clean up the dead bodies since it was a result of one of my posts.

I haven't been able to enjoy the Quadra very much because of all the third party software that was installed on it (very slow and unstable). I want to install a clean OS 8 on one of the hard drives, then put OpenBSD on the other.

If it means anything to any of you guys, I painted it black and changed the original LED light to a red one. Kinda reminds me of HAL...
