I got back from a band trip to canada last night, and man am i sad. I wanna go back. The US sucks so much after visiting other countries, especially canada. I just want to tahnk all the canadians out there, you are soo kik a$$!
( now you may ask why im so friendly towards canada well here is why:)
Above the people being nice and food being good and all that, the three story iMac poster (on ALL sides o the building) made my day. Everyone up there also respects macs and knows how great they are. God it must be great to geek up there....

Nope. Not Ann Murray. I've never heard of Ann Murray's music. You guys just keep guessing away and when i belive you've given up, i'll tell you. HINT: Think mp3.com

Btw, the name of the "titanic chick" is actually Celine Dion, and yes, i am actually a fan of her. (Please don't throw up...please. The 68kMLA Janitor isn't here at the moment!)

I don't hate the US, I just dislike it.
I wanna move to either Canada or Germany.

I've driven through Toronto on my way home from Montréal, what a time, pouring, rush hour, hungry, looking for a restaurant.

Montréal was SWEET though! They have bike lanes in the streets! I love to bike! I have some unusual fondness for Germany, probably because my grandparents were immigrants from Bavaria .

Glad you're back Penguin! Although, I feel sorry for you that you had to leave, now that you like it so much.

Hey, isn't K. D. Lang from Canadia too? She's great! Plus, the greatest vocal artist of our time.... Bill Shatner! I'm pretty sure he's also from up north. Anyone who's heard him perform "Hey Mr. Tamborine Man" knows what I'm talking about.

As a Canadian, I agree that it's much better here than the US (except for the value of the currency). Sure there are many great things like bike lanes, not paying to use highways, Tim Horton's, unspoiled nature and cultural diversity but people really don't care that much more about macs than they do stateside, though there are several nice mac stores in my city.

Well my favorite place is Indy, home of the Indianapolis 500 which is right around the corner in the hoosier state. I would like to visit some Aussies. Alot of them are sci-fi associates of mine. Macs seemed to be appreciated by the pacific rim set. I would also like to go to Germany and look up some relatives...long family tree.
But frankly I am just glad to be alive and able to enjoy the company of friends.

WARNING!!!Big @$$ rant coming!

First, TiMacLover said:

quote:

and then scchicago said:
quote:

I wanna move to either Canada or Germany.

I understand that most of the people on this board are young, so I won't be as harsh as I could be.

First, do you realize how incredibly lucky you were to be born in the US? There are a billion people in this world right now that would trade places with you in an instant! Think you've got it bad because Pops won't spring for the "NEW G-5 Superfreakinfast Mac", then try living off the street in New Delhi, India.

Secondly, in the US you have the ability to do just about anything you want. (Really, I am not kidding!) You come on the internet and post your little heart out, but in how many other countries in this world could you be locked up for cavorting with such a diverse group? Try living in Laos and sitting down at a table with a American, a Brit, and an Aussie, and see how far that gets you.

Finally, I speak with experience. I was a medic in the military, and got to travel to many countries in my career. I have been to Canada, Austrailia, Europe, and too many other countries to list here. I have it in my means to live anywhere I want, and I still chose the US!

So, please, before you go making grand statements about how terrible the US is, please realize just how good you've got it.

p.s. I mean no offense to the other great countries represented on these boards.

Now back to semi-lurking...

Right on, MacMoose! Tell it, brother!
Every day I thank my lucky stars that I was born in the USA, not so much because I think it's the greatest country or not, but because I'm allowed to not like it here! I have a really good friend from my Political Science class who was born and raised in India. She says that, despite all the official condemnations of the caste system, it's still in full effect- when she goes back, her only choice is to become a grade-school teacher, because that is what her family's position in their caste dictates. I can't imagine living like that!
So, even if you do hate it here, be thankful that you won't get shot, blown up or deported for hating it here.
Wasn't it Winston Churchhill who said that Democracy is the worst possbile form of government... except for all those other ones?!
'Nuff Said.

You want cheap DSL?

Just about anywhere in Canada (or at least, in just about anywhere with a population bigger than 10K), you can get consumer DSL (megabit downstream or better) for $40 CDN or less! That's absolutely unheard of in the 'States!

That sounds almost like my Fathers world tour back during his 20 years in the Navy stationed on the U.S.S. Intrepid. He was a medic too. It's good to hear a voice that has a simular passion to setting things straight. Let's not forget though, that part of the beauty of being an American citizen is the freedom to make our own choices on our destiny. Our culture is a large conglomerate of all countries where any of us may or may not hold simular views to another way of living.
I agree that there are alot of young people here that haven't had the oppertunity to really live their lives yet so to appreciate what they have, but when they do....., they just may find themselves someplace other than the U.S. and loving life to the fullest. It really depends on what you're seeking and are willing to do to achieve it. Just like within the States themselves. Why live in the south instead of the north or the east instead off the west. No matter where you go, if people live there, then there must be at least something good about it.

Fear not; I bear no enmity towards people of other nations. My comment was simply a reflection on how, at least in terms of accessibility of broadband Internet access, Canada is a great place to live.

And as for my views on the US in particular:

1. I have no love for American foreign policy, but nor do I believe that even this justifies the killing of innocents.
2. G.W. Bush is a bloody moron, but then again, so is Jean Chretien. Stupidity is one of those things that sort of transcends political boundaries, methinks.

(Hurrah! Unite the world in our shared stupidity!)

I don't hate the USA, I'm just bored with it. Nothing new and exciting for me to see anymore. I've been to Australia, New Zeland, and Canada.... A place to live....

hm....

not Canada. To me it may as well be the states and it's colder up there, and I hate winter.

Australia, it's very very very nice, and has much to offer, and the rural New Zeland is only a hundred miles of water away. (somethin like that)

New Zeland, The ruralness of the country is nice, and I know 2 families that lives there, so if I went there, I'd have to move to the Aukland area and chill with them and take in the ruralness around me... (not immediate depending on where in Aukland)

hmm.....

rural or urban....

i don't really know...
rural provides friends
urban is just cool

rural does not provide urban
urban does not provide rural

urban on reg. basis then flight to rural occasionally provides rural when wanted.

so i choose urban, i choose Australia

Well, I have nothing against Canadia, I just don't want to live there. I never said it was identical to the US, it just reminds me of it too much. I want to be in a galaxy far far away.... nevermind that.... anyhow, the few times I've been in Canada, I've enjoyed myself, don't get me wrong. I just don't want to live there.
