Seems like THIS digital picture frame could be set up to use a VNC client to stream video and use it as a remote monitor, with a simple software hack.
With everything else wireless (i.e. keyboard, mouse, one could simply replace the CRT in a compact and nothing else and use it as an interface with your regular desktop located anywhere within blue tooth range. This has the benefit of preserving the Compact Mac case intact and fully restoring it if desired, while using it daily as a remote desktop mirror, or an extra spanning monitor.
FYI, in my experience the desktop computer needs to be running a 1GHz G4 or better in order to stream smooth video.
