Weird Stuff Warehouse trip - some Mac goods

JRL

Today, I decided to head to a local surplus store to pick up some caps, but unfortunately I didn't realize that they were closed on Sundays. So instead, I went to another one of my favorite electronics surplus stores today, Weird Stuff Warehouse.

Total damage was $30.

Apple Extended Keyboard II

Farallon EtherWave LC PDS (has two RJ-45 ports for networking). This had a pretty badly bent pin but it turned out to be a easy fix.

External SCSI Syquest 44 drive + cartridge (cool thing about this is that it has two additional surge-protected outlets in it)

Antec TVator (allows output under System 7 to be displayed on a TV/recorded using a VCR)

PowerBook Video Cable

MacMoney financial software (boxed - 1987, SE/II/Plus)

8 100uF axial caps (for a few future recappings)

Also this PC laptop:

IBM Thinkpad 600E (no CD/HD - works fine but I grabbed it for parts for my Thinkpad 600)

Pretty happy overall, got some cool stuff this time around.

Wouldn't it make more sense to move the drives from the 600 to the 600E or am I missing something.

Please let me know if you end up with a spare 600E keyboard. I have a 600E that's been on my project list for a while which needs one (along with an hd carrier and new PRAM battery). Thanks...

The two bits I need are a keyboard and an HD carrier/sled. I'm afraid to ask what shipping from CA would be like, though.

The parts are relatively light, so I doubt shipping through Canada Post's expedited service will cause a significant dent. I'll look into it, and get back to you.

Sounds like I would have fun at that store if there was one by me.

Thinkpad 600 series are nice, have a few and one more on the way. The CMOS battery is cheap to replace, the HD sled is the same as found in the T2x,T3x,T4x series Thinkpads, just the cover plate is different. I have a stack of ZIP drives that fit in the removable cdrom bay if you want to trade for one. The only hard thing to find these days is a working main battery (have a new one in a box here somewhere I need to dig out), they have issues where they just stop working for no reason.

I live somewhat far away, so I can't visit often, but I did manage to make the drive down, and it was so much fun that I wanted to buy out the whole store :D :D .
It was hard to leave, that's for sure :p . I plan on going back after this year, perhaps this summer.

Anyway, good job on your finds. I'm not sure what a ThinkPad 600 is (except that it's a PC, obviously), but it sounds like it's somewhat old (mid 90's?).

Really? It's a series of IBM laptops that were produced from 1999 to about 2001. It was the predecessor to the T-Series Thinkpad laptops.

Interesting. I didn't know that.

The 600 series (600, 600e, 600x) is contemporary to and roughly analogous to the PowerBook G3 series. I say "roughly analogous" as the T2x series has more in common with the Pismo.

P.S. Anybody got a dead battery for one... I almost forgot that I'd like to fill in that big hole on the bottom. :-)
