Visioneer PaperPort Vx

Hey all,

I just purchased a Visioneer PaperPort Vx off of ebay for super cheap. It comes with the AC adapter and a serial cable. (RS232)

I've got all the drivers and PaperPort installed and running under OS 8.6, on my Performa 6116CD. Everything I can see in the control panel deals with SCSI though.

Is this scanner able to be hooked up to the mac through a Serial Connection? (modem / printer port) or does it need the SCSI adapter box? I have seen reports of both.

Am I able to use a standard apple serial cable to hook it up? If so, where would I find the drivers for that?

I don't physically have the scanner yet, I just want to get all my ducks in a row so i can start using it right away.

Blake.

I have one of those and yes, it works via a serial connection.

Not sure why you're asking questions about SCSI when it works via serial.

I'm also quite confused by your post, you talk about having the drivers installed, yet don't have the PaperPort hooked up. It sounds to me like you've loaded the wrong drivers if all you can see is SCSI.

It works via serial not SCSI.

I have the driver disk for this if you need those drivers.

Cheers!

Awesome! That was the information I needed.

I got that SCSI adapter on ebay for 10 shipped. :) I figure that 10 dollars for some extra speed is probably worth it!

@Spiceyokooko, if I can't get this to work, or I decide to buy another one, I'll certainly get in contact with you for the Serial software!

Thanks!

Blake.

While the Visioneer PaperPort Vx scanner can and does work with a serial connection, its a tad slow.
That's a bit like saying, the original Apple Macintosh II (on a 020 processor) is a tad slow, but if you drop a DayStar PowerCache 030 50Mhz into it it'll run a lot faster! You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out really.

The Visioneer Paperport Vx scanner as purchased in it's entirety works via a serial connection. The software it comes with works via a serial connection.

How do I know this? I have one and it works via a serial connection.

I also have the SCSI adapter for it but that's an add on and did not come as part of the original Visioneer Paperport Vx product which works via a serial connection. You need a separate set of drivers for the SCSI adapter to work and it does not come as part of the original PaperPort, which works via a serial connection.

Have I made it clear that the PaperPort as it would have been originally purchased and with its original software works via a serial connection?

You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that out really.
Making unfair assertations about my level of intelligence I find offensive.

I was never disputing that The Visioneer Paperport Vx scanner works via a serial connection

Only, to me it sounded that kissmyash933 wanted the extra speed that SCSI affords.

Your response here has been been overtly pedantic and you are somewhat of a prig...

All I was wanting to do was help out a fellow comrade.

Happy to have helped out...
