I haven't been able to find much repair info out there but I recently acquired a NIB USB 100mb zip drive. Im thinking it may have capacitor issues because I get a power light but it is not found when connecting to a computer and will not eject a disk. I didn't want to just start ripping it apart blindly so if anyone has any info it would be great.

I happened to have picked one up at thrift store yesterday but at the same time I still would like to figure this out since it was new in box. And just for record it is the full size blue model not small sub one.
And as a follow up I wanted usb zip to easily move files from my work computer to my Mac that's on my second desk.

Yes, I like Zip drives, but I actually have to agree with Uniserver on this one. The SCSI2SD and FloppyEmu with HD20 emulation makes pretty much all other forms of storage redundant and unnecessary, plus they eliminate all the typical reliability problems (stiction, rubber stoppers turning to tar, grease turning to glue) because they have no moving parts, and they can last almost forever as a result.
I think I'll stay with Zip drives awhile longer, though, since both drives and disks are very cheap (sometimes free) and plentiful.
However, I'm sure purists will tend to stay with standard floppies and hard drives for the full retro experience.

I mean sure there are other solutions; in fact what I have been doing to move files back and forth is run an ftp server on my iPhone that both work computer and my quadra are able to access but it isn't very convienent. It would be nice to just throw a pile of files on Zip disk Pop it out and throw in quadra zip.

i still have a 100mb scsi zip drive on my bench that i use all the time for booting up boards and stuff..
once i replace it with a SCSI2SD, it will be long gone.

I have 4 SCSI2SD drives for various Macs including an external which boots the Plus fine. Had two Zip drives break on me while using it for a boot disk for the plus. The clicks of death occurred which also destroyed the Zip disk and all info was gone.
I still have a SCSI and a usb Zip drive which is great for transferring info between the compact Macs and my Lombard, however, as a boot drive, don't think the zip was made to handle continuous read/write like a floppy.
Have a floppy emu, but haven't set it up yet. Looks to be perfect for the 512k. Looking forward to trying it out.

yeah the HD20 support of the Floppy emu is fantastic.
Also there is quite a few machines that natively have HD20 support in rom
- plus

- Portable 5120 / 5126
- LC
- LC-II
- IIsi
- IIci
And with a dougg3 rom, You can add HD20 support to the
IIcx
SE/30
or a - 128 / 512k with a plus rom, Or a BMOW programable Rominator.
