Figured I might as well start a topic for conquests.

Latest 3 machines are laptops:

iBook G3 14" 600mhz, video seems kind of flacky, HD needed replaced, has Max RAM, mouse plug needed re attached.

iBook G4 14" 1.33Ghz, just needed a reformat and some cleaning.

iBook G4 14" 1.42Ghz. Needed some cleaning, OS reinstall, and reseating the HD (worked then didn't, screw holding the drive in were loose, a pain to get to).

These are the first of the 14" iBooks in my collection, have a bunch of 12" models but these are nicer. Have a couple 1GB DIMMs coming for the G4's to max them out. The 60GB drives are good enough for my needs so they stay.

Funny how a little Windex and a magic eraser will cleans these things up like new.

I liked my 14" 1.42GHz up until the AirPort card quit on me.

This one is working, just got the 1GB SODIMM to max it out at 1.5GB.

Isn't the airport card replaceable (well with some major work)?

Yeah, but I'm not sure if it's the card or the socket, and mine was damaged by the PO in a take apart, so I really don't want to pull it apart again. Frustrating as I stuck an mSATA card inside too.

I am getting faster at taking apart ibooks, but I still hate doing it. A 15/17" Powerbook is much easier to work on.

Do you have any after market batteries?

Not in my PPC stuff, my 12" AlBook and my 14" iBook have working OEM batteries. I do have a cheap China special in my MBP and a Newertech in my MBA though.

I have a bunch of 3rd party batteries for my Thinkpads, some are good and some kinda suck depending on age.

Thinking of getting one for the 14" g4's, I have a new one for my 15" Powerbook G4s but it doesn't seem to last more then 1.5hrs. One of my OEM 12" iBook batteries has some life in it as well, same for a Ti G4.

I get about 2 hours from the MBP, but I notice that in System Profiler it reports it as having half the capacity it's rated for. The MBA varies on how hard I push it, but if I'm just doing word processing I can get six or so hours out of it (original was only rated for 5 hours 'wireless web', back when Apple's testing was...optimistic), or three under 'hard' use.

When I'm running Pro Tools on my 2012 MBP (i7 2.6 GHz with 16 GB RAM), I'm lucky if I can get 45 minutes to an hour on a full charge, and the machine feels like it's going to burst into flames ( ) .

It's fairly average when I'm not using PT, though: I can get 2 or 3 hours when doing word processing or web browsing, and maybe a bit more if I turn the screen brightness down and disconnect my external hard drive and phone (if I let it idle a bunch with the screen off, I can get 4-5 hours out of it sometimes).

Thing I find with the G3 600MHz iBook is that the only OS worth running on it is OS 9. App support for 10.3.9 is quite sub-par, so 10.4.11 is about the only version of OS X I like to use in the G3/G4 generation. It runs pretty abysmally on the iBook G3, and TenFourFox takes ages to do anything. BUT, all that said, OS 9 runs splendidly on the iBook and, as far as I remember, the first 12" G3 iBook (white) running at 600MHz actually shipped with OS 9 rather than a flavour of OS X, but my memory might be a bit fuzzy on that. I miss my Ti 1GHz, which I ruined ages ago. That was probably the best laptop for OS 9/10.4. Shame about its relatively crack-prone case, though. Anyway, great little haul there. =)

Today I got in an empty box. It's the OEM box for a Powerbook G4 15" A1138 highrez figured what the heck it was free for shipping and I own a mint unit of that model.

Also got in 4 iBook 12" screen assemblies plus an ugly looking iBook G4 12" 1.33ghz in parts. Needed a screen for the 800mhz model I have with a cracked screen (has been fixed today). Not sure what to do with the parts machine, it has seen better days.

Won an iBook 12" battery and got it in today.

Hi Capacity model B-5901, charged up to 4237 mAh cycle count of one (new opened box).

Not too bad for $6.78 shipped. Same seller had a NIB shrinkwrapped 3Dlabs Wildcat II 5000 CAD card for the same price shipped.

For some reason I purchased a Powerbook 1400cs and it came in today. Has one of those clear plastic top covers, CPU 603-117, 700MB HD, floppy drive, and I think  12MB of RAM. Previous owner has OS 8 on it, I was thinking something older like 7.6.1?

Anyway, I'd say 7.6.1 will get you most of what 8 has to offer with less of the bloat (you'll get the older, pre-Platinum UI, which is probably a bit lighter on RAM, I'd think).

I got it from a scrapper and figured I might as well try a pre G3 Powerbook.

Cleaned up pretty well and the DS screen isn't that crappy.

Which CPU speed did you get. The 166MHz version's really nice. The 117MHz version lacks cache so it's  .  .  .  just fine if that's the one you got!

The basic model 12MB RAM, 117 CPU no cache, 750MB HD, floppy drive, clear plastic removable cover. I cleaned it till it looked new, tested it, and put it on one of my laptop shelves in the basement. Normally I would look for the faster CPU upgrade, more RAM, find a CDROM drive, and put in a larger HD (I have stacks of IDE laptop drives) but for now I am not too motivated.

One odd thing was when I plugged in the power brick the unit started on it own. When I shut it down it stayed shut down like I should. Wonder if the start key is stuck or it just does that.
