TiBook 550Mhz GigEthernet

On Craigslist a guy was offering a TiBook, and being the TiBook fan that I am, I clicked it, and lo and behold, they would trade for a iPod touch. This sparked my interest, because seeing as how I just bought an iPhone 3G, my iPod touch has been sitting in it's box. anyway, after about 10 emails, we're meeting tomorrow (7/25) and I'm trading my 8GB touch, USB power supply, and silicone case for his 550Mhz TiBook, at 512MB of ram, 20GB HD, and a combo drive. I'm pretty excited, and he sent me pics that he took of it. Interestingly, it has a Japanese keyboard! Anyway, I looked up prices for the TiBook, and iPod touch, and I'm getting a pretty good deal, because the iPod would've probably sat for a while. Oh, and the battery apparently last for about 2.5 hours! It doesn't have an AP card, and the stripped WaveLan card for my iBook won't fit in the AP slot of the TiBook, I'll have to put that in the PC Card slot, but since it no longer has it's internal antenna, I'm going to have to figure something out, maybe something with the TiBooks internal antenna lead pulled out through the PC slot for a (better looking) alternative to ripping the antenna out of my iBook and taping it to the lid of the PB. Anyway, I'm rambling, but I get it tomorrow at 8PM.

The pics of it, I'll post better ones once I actually get it.

Seems a pretty good trade. My TiBook is exactly the same specs as the one you describe and it is a brilliant machine for general web surfing, iTunes and making videos in iMovie. I actually use an Asus USB wireless dongle for Wifi, which is pretty good but it can get in the way since the port door at the back needs to be open all the time when it's plugged in. An airport or wireless PC card is a much neater solution.

Given these TiBooks are approaching 6 or 7 years of age now, they are remarkably modern looking and feeling, and will give most new PC notebooks a run for their money.

I picked it up the other day, I like it! The Japanese keyboard is more confusing than I would've thought, but I'm managing. I tried my Wavelan card in it, to find out the OS X drivers are $20, so I just bought a G card (Belkin F5D7010, I got the one that is based off the Broadcom chipset, so it is recognized as Airport Extreme), and get much better range...In fact I'm in my back yard enjoying the breeze coming in off the lake :) The machine itself was okay, the DVD region code was set to something other than 1, so I swapped out for my mini, which I rarely use for DVDs anyway. It even plays YouTube okay. However Hulu.com is choppy, but not altogether unwatchable. Overall, I'm happy to be able to relax in my backyard on my laptop :)

Which is what I do with my laptops all the time.

It's an awesome way to relax. I have TV, internet, mail, music and beer in a nice environment.

In fact, I'm doing it right now with the new T42.
