Working on a Mini ATX PC board in an HP Slimline case for running Ubuntu and hopefully getting in some "Hackintosh" playtime as well. I've cycled the the power supply connector more times than I'd prefer and now I'm getting odd behavior. The board starts up with fans running at max, winding down to a working level after a split second. It used to remain there, but now kicks back up into high gear again within 6-7 seconds. Behavior began when testing the FLEX ATX power supply I'm hacking into the OEM PSU can. Took it back to original test setup config and it exhibits the same symptoms with the full size ATX Cooler Master back in battery that had been working flawlessly. The only other change to the system was replacement of the (inactive) two pin system fan with a proper PWM fan, but fan state is unrelated to the heatsink blower behavior. It ramps up with or without the new fan in circuit.
Thermal compound failure or borked board/power connector?
