I have been in machines with CRTs before, and have actually fixed (replaced) the TV Tuner on a 32" CRT Sony Trinitron TV and it's fine if you just respect how much voltage is running through it. If you don't respect that it can kill you, you will do stuff recklessly and it will get you killed. If you fear electricity, you will actually be smarter.

Most of the time, when you hear of someone getting killed by electricity on high-voltage components, it's because they didn't bother to take it seriously that it could kill them. So they got stupid.

Presumably this was thread was started by somebody who never made their own computer.

BTW, plugging together a couple of boards made in Taiwan does not qualify as "making a computer".

OK clearly I'm late to this lolfest, but i turn computers on whilst their innards are all exposed all the damn time. Especially in laptops its nice to know that you didn't accidentally, say, leave the inverter plug hanging or one of the speakers disconnected prior to putting all 340 screws back in.

can't say i enjoy his same taste in music, but as far as i can tell this was just something to do one bored saturday afternoon.

I've done it. You need to have the back off to tune the monitor effectively. I've done with an SE/30 and a Classic. Sometimes I'll have the floppy drive or hard drive hanging out on its cables.
