The 1400 Troubleshooting thread . . .

. . . since I started a 2300 troubleshooting repository, I figured it was a good time to start one for my 1400 projects too . . .

I'm not home right now, but I'll edit in more info later.

"Beater" my fugly first WiFi Companion isn't booting up. I'll re-seat the CrescendoPB and give it another try.

How stable have the caps been on the 1400/2300/3400 release series?

My 1400cs and the 3400c have been running pretty well. Occasionally I have to reset a PMU, but the caps seem to be holding up nicely....at least for now.

the 3400c takes *forever* to do a RAM test, but other than that everything runs well.

My 1400c runs pretty well, except the floppy drive won't write to disks, i'm guessing this is a defect in the drive as cleaning the heads didn't help

Does it read floppies just fine? It's too bad you're across the pond, I think I've got a couple of spares.

Beater is the last of my PBs without a ZIP Drive, that's the new Floppy as far as I'm concerned. ZIP works WAAAYYYYYY better than USB Keychain drives or SD Chiplets between my OS9 USB Macs and my Win7 and ubuntu NetBooks.

I've already thoroughly thrashed a Chiplet and a couple of Keychains, the 16GB KCHN was particularly painful to lose.

Never had caps go back on any of my 1400s, though my original /117c got a bit flaky after awhile (I suspect RAM or something else on the logic board). I transferred most of its guts to a "new" 166c along with a G3/466 and that's been kicking butt and taking names since then.
