The MR824 diode that is a recommended replacement for the GI854s used at CR1 and CR5 on compact Mac analog boards appears to be discontinued, does anyone here know of a suitable replacement? To me it looks like Vishay EGP50G-E3/54 might be a suitable replacement (see datasheet at http://www.vishay.com/docs/88585/egp50a.pdf), the only big difference I see is that the temperature range on the Vishay part is -65 to +150 C instead of -65 to +175 C.
And on that note, I know several sources recommend replacing a bunch of diodes on Mac analog boards. I'm repairing a Mac 512k that had a shorted flyback. After replacing the FBT the video is fine, but I was planning to replace some electrolytic caps as well as the RIFA manufactured across-line cap since I know those are infamous for blasting brown goo all over the board with age. Does it make sense to go ahead and change these diodes out as well? I don't usually replace diodes, transistors, ICs, etc. unless they're actually defective.
