I have one... but unfortunately this is not working properly, the screen is showing some artefacts and the Imac is not booting from any of the hard disks i have.
You know, that's so common with iMacs in general. The G5 and Core models have issues with BGA chips separating.
It's easy to point the finger at the design but I think the wrong portion of the design is blamed. The part that is poorly thought out is that it's impossible for "normal" people to clean inside. These things get _very_ nasty inside because people can't easily open them up and dust them out. More dust = more heat = hot chips = BGA death.
i can agree with that, but what about the fact that it's almost impossible to boot from a working HD ?
I get it working once, just removed the HD, drop another one, booted from the Panther cd and get a fresh install, restarted and get a working Imac for half an hour :-/
On next try, the system just freeze and never worked again properly.(of course i managed to use thermal compound where required)
I really like the design of the G4 iMacs. I've got a 1st gen 800 MHz 17" that I bought new shortly after they came out, and have given it a home on my desk since. It's sleeping on the desk in the office right now. Screen tint is a little yellowed and the arm isn't quite as tight as it once was, but I still think it's just a cool design. These days it runs 10.4 for AppleTalk support. I'm going to put OS 9 back on it one of these days.
