SE OS question

I have received Mac OS 6.0.8 in the mail today from TheNixer. I performed the installation on my SE, restarted it, and sure enough, the Finder now reads System 6.0.8 rather than 6.0.4. But not much has changed when it comes to program loading time. TeachText still takes 10 seconds and Microsoft Word 4 still takes 1 minute 40 seconds.

Is there something I missed? Anything else I could do?

How much memory do you have in it? Upgrading it should speed some things up, including the startup time of some larger apps.

It has the full 4 MB of RAM.

Also, when I try to run Disk First Aid on the hard disk, it says that since it's my system disk, it can only verify the hard disk, but not repair it. So I ran the verification and when it was done, it flashed up this message:

"Verification completed, but cannot repair system disk"

Does that mean that there is a problem with the hard drive?

Either way, I'll try and track down a Disk Tools floppy disk.

It could be bad blocks on the hard disk. When it encounters the bad block it will freeze up trying to read it over and over again. Sometimes it's not completely bad and it can read it so the program loads, eventually.
