SE/30 SCSI CD ROM Issues

I'm trying to install 7.0.1 on my SE/30. I got my legacy disk and my external 600 e drive, put the disk in, hold c. Read light flashes a few times, and Mac OS loading screen is frozen. I changed the scsi I'd to a few other numbers and tried with a different drive. Same thing each time... What's wrong?

Ohhhhh ok. That makes since now... Wonder if it would be possible to make a 7.5.5 based one? That would be really helpful.

I remember messing with making bootable CDs on the SE/30 years ago.

I cannot recall if I could ever get that thing to properly boot until I found a copy of Toast I could make bootable HFS disks on an older machine.

I doubt it.  I don't think Apple had released CDROM hardware at the time of the SE/30.  I would be shocked if the SE/30 ROM would have CDROM support in it.

One thing you could try, use Gamba's SuperBooter75 from Floppy which should get the CDROM drivers going.  Haven't tried it myself.

I use a SCSI2SD hanging off the external SCSI port in removable media mode, so I can hot-swap SD cards... that is of course the fastest, easiest option, although a bit more costly.

if your using the IIsi ROM with the fixed 32-bit addressing mode, it should boot the legacy CD without problems.

I just left it at default config. Im going to try installing from floppies first and if that doesn't work then Ill experiment.

If I remember right, there are some ResEdit hacks that must be done for 7.6.1 to boot. With the SE/30, just install from floppy rather than CD-ROM.

Got system 6.0.8 installed successfully. Man, its... its... FAST! It was slow with 7.5.5...

Anyways, Ill hopefully be getting an SCSI2SD from someone here soon so Ill be reinstalling on that again, but for now, floppies work!

I find that 7.1.1 works well enough for me. It isn't terribly slow, but it isn't necessarily a speed demon either. It provides a good enough balance. I also have System 6.0.8 in a System Picker configuration for everything that can run under System 6.

I have a similiar setup on my SE, but with 7.0.1 on that instead of 6.0.8. I have 7.5.5 also on the SE just for kicks (It's slow but kind of fun at the same time lol).
