SE/30 mode32

Macdrone

I have an SE/30 and of course has low sound and no boot chime ( I have some spare analog boards to try as the caps and board look pretty good ). My biggest issue is I found some extra ram and it boots and sees 8 Meg's but there of course is 64 meg in there. So I go to install mode32 version 7.5 which is supposed to work with system 7.1 to 7.5.5. I installed both and it hangs at the small happy Mac. I waited hours never got past it.

It doesn't have a pram battery in it, so ill pull one out of another Mac and see if it will remember mode 32 is set maybe.

Any insight would be great.

Thank you all.

Hmmm, battery probably won't be an issue. Especially if the computer still does it after being turned off and back on. It's possible that the motherboard (or the analog board) developed an issue right after installing the MODE32 extension.

Are you just running four 16MB SIMMs on the board? The SE/30 doesn't like that. Try adding four of the 1MB SIMMs back to the board.

There's a table in the link above.

Although the capacitors can still look good on the outside, as for the logic board they are all dead. An ESR tester will show this without a doubt.

For the long term, it's advisable to recap the Analog board and more important the PSU as well since these capacitors are degraded too and as old as the one's on the logic board.

Your machine will get a lot more stable after recapping it completely.

MODE32 1.2 should work fine over System 7/7.1. Use 7.5 for 7.5.x only.

Try holding down the Esc while booting as it disables MODE32.

So 6.0.8L. Allows the classic 2 and others to see more ram 8mb+ /WO mode 32 ?
I'm not sure about that, because as far as I know, 6.0.8L is just the same as plain old 6.0.8 with a couple changes to support special features specific to the machines it was meant for, and as such has the same 8 MB limit as 6.0.8 and below.

Capacitors are the issue, put the board in another SE I had and immediately had a video issues. Still no sound so it's not the analog board.

Guess ill take my boards for the 30 and classics and go to town.
