SE/30 forgetting memory settings

So I boot up my Mac SE/30 and 32 bit mode is off and its not seeing all of the memory installed.  I select 32 bit mode, do a full shut down, reboot and its fine.

After shutting down the computer even for an hour or two, the 32 bit setting will be forgotten and switched to off.

The PRAM should be ok as the date looks fine.  Will resetting the PRAM help?

PRAM batteries can last a LONG time, but 3 years is about normal. Try changing other settings, like mouse cursor speed. Does it keep the proper date and time? If it can not keep date and time or mouse speed, then the PRAM battery is bad. If the PRAM battery is a known good one (new) then the capacitors on the motherboard are probably going.

If those settings above are keeping and memory settings keep switching, you can try a PRAM reset or deleting the memory preference file.

I would agree with Unity in that the SE/30 sounds like it needs a recapping. But, was this SE/30 recapped before?

It could also be a corrupt preference file. For System 7, its in the Preference Folder inside the system folder. But on System 6, is somewhere in the System Folder as Sys6 does not a Preference Folder.

Thanks for the replies  I can't find a Memory preference file in the Preferences folder.  I bet that is the issue.  It must not be saving even when I change it
