SCSI2SD experiences with SE/30?

Has anyone installed a SCSI2SD in their SE/30?  Just wondering how the speed compared to the hard drive.

I have mine connected to the external SCSI port. I ran Speedometer 4.0.2 with the Hard drive in my SE/30, then compared it to the SCSI2SD. The V5 SCSI2SD was slightly slower -- The hard drive rated 1.0 vs. a .825 rating of the SCSI2SD.

Are there any settings on the SCSI2SD to speed it up, or is the difference due to it being connected to the external port?

The v5 cards max at roughly 2.5mb, so you won't get the fastest speeds possible, but what you lose in benchmark highs, you gain in lower heat, and less power usage. I used a Panasonic SLC mSD card, and when to comes to average use, its feels fine. no discernible difference even with a Turbo 040 upgrade. The v6 cards are up to 10MB, but they are better for the later era PowerMacs, I plan to get one for my 9600/350.

Hi rickrob,

The two values that you quoted for Speedometer 4.0.2 (1.00 and 0.825), were they the result for the disk-part of the test or the overall result from Speedometer?

One idea for a faster disk is more memory and the usage of a RAM-disk. You usually have to start your mac twice and the RAM-disk is volatile (it disappears once the machine is powered down), but you will get disk-readings for Speedometer of around 4 or so (if I remember correctly).

It was just the disk test.  Overall the SCSI2SD runs great. I finished the install and it's now mounted internally.   The hard drive was a Quantum ProDrive Lightning 540S, and I think that was a pretty fast drive back then. Overall I think the SCSI2SD is doing OK speed wise

.

For the SE/30 I have to use the power supply but for the IIci it runs off the bus. Does this go for anyone else with v5 SCSI2SD?
